I stumbled upon this place quite by accident.
Herb Semmelmeyer was a neighbor of ours growing up. To me, he was a replica of John Wayne in strength and composure. He was always nice and polite to us kids, even though we were the rabble rousers of the neighborhood, stirring up trouble whenever we could.
It's always sad when people like this pass on. Sorry for the family's loss.
Sincerely,
Doreen Dornbush

I'll always cherish the fun times I had playing golf with Big Herb as we were usually partners or rode in the same golf cart. When we first starting playing together he brought out some really old clubs he had used at least 30 years previously. Real wooden drivers and such. I got him to buy new clubs and yes, new golf shirts and shorts. He looked the part of a professional. And, wouldn't you know it, he got a hole in one and I'm still waiting. He had fun reminding me of that and all I can say now is that I'll miss him and think about him often.

I worked with Herb at the agency for a few years prior to his retirement-what a great guy, very kind. Often he and Barbara were in my thoughts, loved the Christmas Cards sent from their various travels. Will be missed dearly-Deborah Abrahamsen Bussman

I am sad for the passing away my father in law Big Herb. Nothing will make up for the loss, only time will ease the pain. I will always be blessed that I was able to visit him during his brief illness and have a chance to say goodbye and that I loved him. This is a reminder for all of us to take the time, and visit our loved ones; we should never stop letting them know how much we appreciate and love them. You will be missed by all Herb. This a rememberence of life. Uncle Herb was someone whi embraced active life from the golf game he loved to the high Sierra cabin he viewed the simple life. I remember him as a youth helping me fly model planes in the neighborhood in Portland Oregon and then as a gracious host who welcomed us on our western trip to meet all my side of the family and let my wife Connie see for the first time the hospitality of our western family. Uncle Herb will be sorely missed. His wit, charm, and vitality touched many of us in the family.

Dear Barbara and Family,
I am sad to learn of your loss on the passing of Herb. We've all lost a good friend. I too am a long-time Rotarian and Herb helped me out on several occasions in Rotary service. For a number of years Herb supported our Rotary High School All-Star Basketball Game by getting our insurance policy established and renewed. Mostly, I recall the time when Herb was part of our Club's Christmas program. One year, he gave a presentation - a personal glimpse, really, of what Christmas meant to him, especially in his early years. I was charged with lining up that Christmas program event and Herb volunteered to make that presentation. It was very personal and fitting for the occasion. I'll always be grateful to him for his willingness to answer that call of service and will remember him for that. Thank you for continuing to support Rotary's effort to eradicate polio - we're almost there. May God keep you close and comforted.
