Herbert Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 16, 2020.
Herbert R. Williams Jr. of Audubon, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. He was 93 years old. Born March 10, 1927, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Herbert and Harriet (nee Craven) Williams. Herb was the beloved Husband of the late Nancy L. Williams. Herb is survived by his three children: Jeff Williams, Rob Williams (and his wife, Tracey), and Beth Williams. He was the brother of the late Jack Williams and is survived by his brother Tom (and his wife Kiki) and his nieces and nephews: Lynn, John, Laurie, Tom and Betsy. He attended William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia while excelling in basketball and tennis. Herb graduated with a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. He served in the US Army during WWII and was about to be stationed in Europe when the war ended. Most of his working life was in various managerial positions for Container Corporation of America. Herb also served on the Vestry at Trinity Episcopal church in Gulf Mills, as well as many other committees and volunteer positions at the church. Herb was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. He faithfully followed "his" Phillies, Eagles and Flyers through thick and thin. Herb was an enthusiastic golfer and tennis player. He and Nancy enjoyed traveling both with their family and later as a couple. As a family they explored the western US, relaxed in Jamaica and Bermuda, and celebrated their 50th year of marriage with a family vacation in Hawaii. In their later years they explored Europe together. Herb had a kind and gentle manner with people. He was always ready to lend a sympathetic ear or to fetch his tools and fix whatever needed to be fixed. He was a caring husband to his Nancy and a compassionate, loving father to his three children. Interment will be private. A public memorial for relatives and friends will be scheduled at a later date due to the pandemic.
