Dad - I posted something before, but I do not believe it was right. Now that we are coming to the end of Shloshim and the beginning of the transition back to the rest of the world I want to try again to thank you. I remember a story you told me about "footsteps in the sand" and how when things were going bad for me and I only saw one set of footsteps when I walked, it was because G-d was carrying me.
Now there will two sets of footsteps, because now you are with G-d.
I love you Dad - You are my hero.

Dear Herman,
"The Heart of the Matter"
During this time of heartache at the news of your recent passing, I can't help but reflect upon a story that is now more than an half-century old.
The first story is about a young toddler who just had his birthday, and one who was wondering who would remember that fact, and how would it be remembered.
The second story is about sitting in the first row of Madison Square Garden in NYC and watching the NCAA Basketball Holiday Tournament some ten years later, with iconic stars such as Kareem Abdul Jabbar (then Lew Alcindor) and Elvin Hayes playing against each other in a televised title game.
What is the common thread to both of these stories?
They are both a true testament to a Big Brother who took the time to do something so very gracious for his younger brother.
Why am I telling this story?
Simply because, after more than an half-century, I still have a red football birthday helmet and a NCAA Basketball title ticket stub as a remembrance of another space and time, and a genuine keepsake from a Big Brother with a special kind of heart and one filled with the purest of pure gold.
That is the kind of kindness I choose to remember in this time of heartfelt sorrow.
Herman, may your soul be bound up in the bonds of Eternal Life, and may your memory ever be for blessing.
May you now rest in Eternal Repose, at His Right Side in a special place called Paradise.
May we one day meet up again, so that I can get that golden opportunity to thank you just one more time, my Big Brother with that Golden Heart.
In heartfelt sorrow, and in search of solace at such a time as this,
Your youngest brother Ken (and Karen).

Holy Cow! as Phil Rizzuto used to say Herman will go down leaving a vacant spot in the outfield forever.

Dear Uncle Herman,
You were a great husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. The memories we shared together will last forever. The lunches at the Palace Diner and your incredible knowledge of the Yankees and baseball always amazed me. You will be missed but never forgotten.
Love,
Mark (and Jill)

Herman and I shared the same name from our grandfather and we have the same birthday. Growing up he was like an older brother to me. I share his loss with his family. His ever cousin Herb.

Herman and I grew up together. We lived on the same floor of an apartment building in New York City. We were very loving cousins as well as being great friends. I will always treasure our times together.

I will remember Herman forever. He was and remains my older brother . For my entire life he has been my older brother and friend. For the past 6 decades he has also been my advisor and attorney whether when he was associated with Pillsbury Winthrop, Thelen Reid Brown Raysman, Baer Marks , Bell Kalnick or before or after these firms. He guided me at Oppenheimer & Co., Sassower, Jacobs & Schneider, Arcs Industries, Bates Manufacturing, Newpark Resources, Xplore Technologies, Communication Intelligence Corp and most recently iSign Solutions. I will continue to think about him daily and thereby keep his spirit and soul alive. Rest in peace.

Dear Herman,
Today, I can't help but think about how the passage of time seems to affect all of us; it is an inevitable fact of life.
After hearing news of your passing, we quietly and sadly limp along, and go though our daily distractions, and try to make it through the day, pretending that every thing is the same as it was.
But we know that is simply not the case.
Silly sports analogies notwithstanding, the original member of out "starting five" is now gone, and we are down one vital member of our "power play."
But also some things remain constant throughout our mortal existence, and some things will never change.
You were, you are, and you will aways be my Big Brother Herman, and your presence will always be missed, and your absence will always be felt around these parts.
May an "host of heavenly angels sing thee to thy rest."
May your soul now be bound up in the bonds of Eternal Life, and my your soul ever be for blessing.
May you now be able to rest in Eternal Repose.
Rest now in peace, my Big Brother Herman.
With an aching heart filled with sorrow, and with lots of warm remembrances and with lots of love,
Your younger brother Ken (and Karen).
