Herman Schandel Obituary

Herman R. Schandel, 84, of Cloquet, died on Dec. 5, 2002, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 2, 1918, in Brainerd, to Frederick and Ernestine (Unger) Schandel. The family moved to Little Falls, Minn., in 1924, where he attended school. In 1935, Herman went to Oregon to join his older sisters and brother. He went into the CCC's in 1936 and then in the Army in 1938, where he served until 1941 when he received a knee injury. He sailed in the merchant marines from 1941 until 1947. In Jan. 1948 he returned to Little Falls where he met and married Lila Rebischke on June 12, 1948. Herman attended barber college in Fargo, ND and Minneapolis, Minn., in 1949 and 1950. He barbered in Minneapolis and Little Falls for a short time, then moved to Cloquet in 1953 where he continued barbering until 1986 when he retired. Herman was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Cloquet VFW. He was preceded in death by his infant son Kenneth, his parents, two brothers, one sister. He will be missed by his wife of 50 years and sons Tim (Kim) and Randy, granddaughter Mary, sisters Helen Sosnovski, Ruth Salter, brother Danny, and several nieces and nephews. SERVICE:11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 515 Skyline Blvd, Cloquet. Private family interment in Oakland Cemtery, Little Falls, Minn. Family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Arrangements by Wefelmeyer-Handevidt Funeral Home, 218-879-6741
