Herman was born in New York to Anna Weintraub who gave him a love of music, opera, history, reading and all things intellectual, and to Henry Weintraub, who was a model of the values and qualities of a good man and father. Herman graduated from De Witt Clinton H.S. in the Bronx at the age of 15 and from the University of North Carolina with a degree in physics at the age of 19. He served in the Navy on Guam during World War II, and married Muriel when he returned home. He earned a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute in Hoboken, NJ. He worked in the aerospace industry for many years, first in southern California and then in Sunnyvale. He loved and enriched the lives of his wife and 3 children, Bennet, Philip, and Faye, spending many hours warming the benches at little league or soft ball games or listening to them practice their instruments. He was an avid baseball fan, excellent at cross word puzzles, and a good racquet ball player. He could always make us laugh.
