Herschel Hall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 3, 2020.

Herschel Harold Hall passed away at the age of 87 on June 27, 2020 after contracting Covid-19.

He was a long-time resident of Cotulla and had many dear friends and domino buddies.

Herschel was born in Harrison Township, Missouri on May 28, 1933, the third of three sons born to Ray and Thelma Hall. When the family moved to Texas, he attended in Alice and Kerrville and graduated from William Adams High School in Alice. After graduation, he was drafted and served in the US Army at Ellison AFB in Alaska.

Upon being honorably discharged from the military, he began working in the Texas oilfield as a heavy equipment operator where he had an excellent reputation and earned the nickname “Digger”. He worked for many years for Tommy Martin whose family became a second family to him.

In 1978 Herschel married Rose Marie Malott, and they made their home in Texas and Florida. Herschel was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting throughout his life. He also never missed a chance to attend the Methodist Church in Cotulla and dedicated his later years to contributing to his church family. His service included counseling inmates through an anger management program. He also always looked forward to his Wednesday domino games and a great piece of homemade pie.

Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, Leroy Hall, brother, Leon Hall, his nephew Larry Hall, and his beloved wife Rose Marie Hall. He is survived by his brother Ray Hall, Jr. (Barbara), his nephews, Gary Hall (Judith), Michale Hall and niece Ann Langdon (Jay).

Due to Covid-19, a memorial service will be postponed. Burial will be in the Alice Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Cotulla or a charity of one’s choice.

It is with Such Heavy Heart finding out today that Mr. Digger had passed. I met him in the RV Park that we resided in together "Cotulla Fish Hatchery and RV". He was Very Dear and Special to me. So Special that he actually got to move behind me (Thank You- Lee Peters). I Always picked and told him when I have to move I want you to go as well. I Always tried to Help and See after Him, not to mention all the times we visited and shared our coffee together. We Always maintained our phone calls and stayed in touch after I moved Heartbroken that he wouldn't be along. He was an Angel in my eyes and I will Forever Love and Miss Him!!! Prayers to the Hall Family and Friends that He Left Behind! R.I.P Mr. Digger!!! Heaven Surely Gained An Angel ❤❤❤

Knew Herschel a short time, about 10 years, but enjoyed his company and sharing time and breaking bread with him at Wild Hog Cookoff time and at Cotulla Methodist Church. Herschel was a good man and will always remember him. My sympathies to his family. Rest in peace, brother.
