HURLEY – Hettie Potter Sullivan, 77 years of age, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Evalyn Smith Potter. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of Blackey Church of Christ, a loving mother and grandmother and was a homemaker. Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Sullivan, April 30, 1977.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin and wife Barbara Sullivan, Hurley, and Teddie Sullivan and Betty Parks, Canada, Ky.; three sisters, Opal Osborne, Toledo, Ohio, Trula Puckett, Toledo and Gaye McCormick, North Carolina; one brother, Edd Potter, Hurley; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas David Sullivan; one grandson, Bradley Ray Sullivan; and three brothers, Hassell, Tommy and Clyde Potter.
Funeral services for Hettie Potter Sullivan will be conducted Monday, June 6, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Blackey Church of Christ, Wolford, Va., with Evangelist Rick Stiltner, Evangelist Michael Trent and Russell Charles officiating, with burial to follow in the Baker Cemetery on Race Fork near Hurley. Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday at 6 p.m., with services Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. The body of Mrs. Sullivan will be moved to the Blackey Church of Christ Monday at noon to await the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Brian Sullivan, Jason Sullivan, Joshua Sullivan, Todd Vandyke, Johnny Baker, Timmy Potter, Bradley Potter, Mark Cooper and Scottie Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. M.J. Thakkar, Steve Justus, Betty Hurley, Cody Sullivan, staff and nurses of Heritage Hall Nursing Home and staff and nurses of Buchanan General Hospital.
