My Dad lived his life for his family. There was not a day that would go by that he didn't think of his wife, kids, or grandchildren. He worked hard every day to provide for us. We are so grateful and blessed to have him as our father.

I wanted to share some stories about my dad's character, generosity, and the love that he had for his family. I was told when my family was in Cambodia during the war, he would sneak away at night to build a boat for his family and his neighbor's family to escape. He risked his life every night but he knew in his heart that was what he had to do for his family. When my parents came to America they didn't have a lot of money or family here. He would work long hours to provide for his family. Even though my father had to work at night, he always made us breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He showed us his love through his cooking. He would make amazing, protein packed meals, for my brothers when they had track meets. My father would drive all over town to watch his sons compete. Those were some of my favorite memories that I have with my dad.

My dad was so kind. He always called me every Sunday just to say thank you for helping him that weekend at the shop. I always looked forward to his phone calls. He would love to call to talk about the Lakers, about who was being traded and how many points the Lakers made. I will always treasure those phone calls.

My dad was a gentle man. He would never raise his voice, but when he spoke we all listened. He always put others before his own needs. If there was a dish that tasted delicious he would save it for his family.
I recently had a dream about my Dad. And even in my dream he was looking out for his wife. He told me in my dream that he was being good in heaven and that he was able to come home early. He told me that he wanted to surprise my mom at the airport because he knew she was coming back from the Philippines in a couple of days and to make sure I bring him water so he can give it to my mom.

Poppie, thank you so much for loving us. Every day I miss you. Every day I think of you. There are some days that I still wake up thinking you are still here with us. I want you to know that we are okay and you don't have to worry about us. When the girls come over they look at your picture and say that is their A Gong. Tyler asks where his A Gong is, and when is A Gong coming back? They will never forget you and I know they will always have a special memory of their A Gong. I know you are watching over us and when I see a hawk in the sky or a red Previa driving down the street I know it is you reminding me that you are still there. I will treasure everything that you have taught me and I will live my life honoring you. To my best friend, my super hero, my dad, I will always love you.

Your forever side kick

Dearest Sang,

Though I did not know your father well what I do know is that he was an extraordinary man for raising such a beautiful, loving, generous, big-hearted daughter like you. I feel very fortunate that I had the honor to meet your dad while he was alive and try his cooking each time you would bring leftovers home and boy was it delicious! I am also very honored to have your dad attend my wedding which meant so much to me. From all the stories I hear and what I know of your dad I see all those things in you. Like your father you are one of the most lovable and kind-hearted person I know who is always so accommodating to others. You've also inherited his great cooking skills because every time I eat your cooking I'm hooked. Through you his legacy will live on because you carry all the great qualities everyone loves about him Sang-Sang. I know your dad is smiling from up above and is very proud of you.

You are and have always been a part of my family so know that we are all here for you. We LOVE you tremendously and truly feel blessed to have you in our lives.

Love,

Chi 2 & Big Tony

To the most patient, hardworking and loving Husband, father and grandfather:

My father came to the US with an elementary education and no skills to enter into the corporate world. Early on, my father worked odd jobs to support his family. After working many years as baker in a donut shop, he and my mom decided to own their own business. For the past 21 years, they owned three separate businesses one of which they just recently sold in November 2012 to retire and be with their kids and grandkids.
Growing up, I often felt that I did not resemble anyone in my family. As I grew older, I started to see some resemblance of my father in me. He was the most patient and gentle man who hardly raised his voice and if he did, I was sure to listen. A Pa, thank you for showing me what patience is like as I have only ½ the patience you had.
Father, you showed us your love by working long hours (mostly 12-14 hour days) to provide for the family. Your hard work and dedication to your family created a pathway for me to work hard and provide for my family. A Pa, thank you for showing and guiding me how to be a hard worker even though I am ½ the provider you were.
Father, you are the best cook I know. Thank you for always caring and cooking for us even though you worked long hours. My father did not write down any of his recipes as he memorized all of them. He knew just the right amount of ingredients to make his favorite dishes. My father would always ask what we wanted for dinner and if we had a craving we would tell him and he would always find the time to cook our favorite meals. Since he did not write any of recipes down, I will not be able to replicate any of his dishes. A Pa, thank you for showing us your love through your cooking as I am ½ the cook you were.
My father was not an affectionate man on the exterior. My father showed his love by his actions. He did not have to say “I Love You” to us, as we knew that his sacrifice and his actions were his love language. I just knew that his actions were more meaningful than these three words. One of the few times I saw my father have tears in his eyes, was when my wife Suong and I told him that we were getting married and the other was when Suong and I told him that he was going to be a Grandfather, “A Gong”, to our three beautiful children. A Pa, all I wanted to do was make you proud of me and just by looking at his face, I knew he was so proud of me.
My father loved the game of basketball as he played it growing up in Cambodia. After working his long nightshift as a baker, my father would find the time to come and watch me play basketball. If he was not able to make the games, he would always ask if my team had won. Some of you may not know this but my father was the biggest Lakers fan. The yellow and gold ribbons you are wearing today is to honor my father and his love for the Lakers. A Pa, I will forever miss watching the Lakers games with you as the last game we watched together was when the Lakers last won a game against the Houston Rockets in Overtime to make it to the playoffs. He was so happy.
A Pa, I already miss so much, but I know that you are in a better place so please, do not worry about us anymore. You took care of mom and it will take all of us to fill your shoes to take care of mom. You have done a great job in providing for the family and now it is time for us to provide for you and mom. It is time for you to rest as you surely deserve it. A Pa, you are my role model and I thank you for your patience, hard work and most importantly showing your love through your actions.

Hok Khauv aka Poppie, was the most loving, caring, and unselfish man I knew. I am truly saddened that he will not physically be at our wedding, but know he will be there spiritually with the biggest smile and the happiest of tears. The stories I heard of him during the war in Cambodia and what he did here in America would touch and inspire anyone. He truly did everything he possibly could for his family. He was the strongest and hardworking man I knew and someone that every man should strive to be more like.

I appreciate that you welcomed me with open arms and accepted me as part of your family. I am truly honored to have had you in my life. I will miss your smile and uncontrollable laughter, your amazing food, that proud look in your eyes when you saw your children and grandchildren, your generous heart, and your quiet strength.

Rest in peace.

I love you Poppie.

Dear Poppy,

I just wanted to say thank you for being such a wonderful man and father to my best friend. I remember when I first met you and I wasn't sure what to call you and Sang said "Just call him Poppy" and I have called you that ever since. You have sacrificed so much to provide for your family and grand children. I want to thank you for always opening the door for me into your home and always making sure I had something to eat. I will truly miss seeing you and wished I have been able to see you more. Even though Sang has Bobby who I know you love, I promise to watch over Sang during the next chapter of her life, especially when she is in need of her Poppy. May you rest in peace.

To The Khauv Family,

My heart goes out to you during the loss of your father. I know he was a wonderful, devoted man who loved his wife, kids and was crazy about his grand children. I truly believe that you guys have given him joy since his retirement allowing him to spend time with you and the grand children. I also believe that every one of you have such great supporting spouses and fiancés that will take care of you for the rest of your lives and allowing Poppy to pass in peace. Poppy is celebrating life and he will always be with you, watching over everyone and smiling. I know you will continue his legacy and remind your children, grand children and so on, that you all wouldn't be where you are if it weren't for him and what he has sacrificed for the family.

We love you Khauv Family and are here for you.

Love Always,

Stephanie, Roger, Morgan, Malia and Mason

My Father-in-law was a good man! He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He sacrificed for the family and would do anything for us. We were blessed to have him in our lives, although only for 6 short months, we were glad that he had a chance to enjoy his grandkids. He was always up in the morning, making sure that Tyler has his lunch and that we have something to eat for breakfast.

He had a true servant heart. He demonstrated to me what it means to serve. He was always serving in the background, never complaining, never seeking recognition, always making sure that everyone is comfortable and everything is running smooth.

He had passed on his amazing work ethic to his children. I am lucky that Andy is a good man, just like his Dad.

Please rest in peace and not to worry about Mom. We will take care of her.

Love,

SK
