Howard Dailey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 28, 2006.
Funeral services for Howard "Bud" Dailey Jr., 65, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Donahue American Legion Larry M. Gronewold Post #532. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Mr. Dailey died on Sunday, February 26, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center West Campus in Davenport after a courageous battle with cancer.
Howard Franklin Dailey Jr. was born July 27, 1940, to Howard Sr. and Emiline (Martens) Dailey in Davenport. He married Janet M. Dailey on February 23, 1963, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2005. Bud was a husband, father, and friend to many. He served his country with honor in the U.S Army during the Vietnam War. He came home to marry his sweetheart. Bud worked for RIIS on the Rock Island Arsenal where he worked with many types of heavy machinery. Also known as the man that couldn't say no, Bud never refused to help family, friends, as well as a stranger. He was a member of the Donahue American Legion Larry M. Gronewold Post #532. Among the many things he enjoyed was working on his farm, spending time with family and friends, and creating brilliant art work.
Survivors include his daughter, Candy (Mrs. Joe) Greer, of Davenport; a son, Scott (and his wife Ronda) Dailey, of Eldridge; a sister, Patricia (Mrs. Don) Hass, of Donahue; and seven grandchildren, Ben, Trent, Will, Stephanie, Katie, Kurt, and Jennifer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, and father, Howard "Buck", and mother, Emiline.
Memorials may be made to the family.

I'll miss the Friday afternoons when Bud would tell us about (trying) to run the locomotive on the Arsenal and the trials and tribulations involved. It was a pleasure knowing you, my friend, God rest you.

The hardest part for me will be not seeing Bud in his big old endloader pushing up coal.Nobody could build a coal pile like Bud! At the end of a busy day of hauling coal to the Arsenal,I will miss our visits and Bud telling about his farm. What a great guy!
