I met Howard over 30 years ago. When I met my wife and we were planning our wedding she talked about a man that had sang at her mom and grandmother's weddings. It was Howard Hartman she told me. Well, I called Howard at home and ask him to sing at our wedding. He sang at her grandmother's wedding on May 27,1939. And 56 years later he sang the same songs (Because and Wedding Song) at our wedding May 27,1995. We had seen him perform at The Great Caruso on my wife's birthday and he actually sang a song to her. He was a special person in our lives and he will be missed.

Howard was one of the joys in my family's life. My mother and grandmother were both born on February 29. Every year when grandmother came to Houston to celebrate the whole family went to Great Caruso to hear Howard. He always serenaded grandmother with Some Enchanted Evening while she beamed. I called Howard when grandmother became ill and could not make the trip. He made a tape of Some Enchanted Evening and took it to my house with a note for Grandmother. She loved it. What a remarkable man!

What a joy it was to have Howard and Tommie living next door to Mom and George for so many years. When my kids were little, especially Will, they would knock on the door to have a visit and to see the dog and the parakeet. We loved Howard! If I bumped into him in the driveway, I would ask for a song, and he would always deliver a beautiful line or two. His gifts brought joy to thousands of people for many years. Heaven's choir is celebrating today.

Tommie,
Howard was not just The Voice, but a kind, generous man, a friend and most of all a loving husband. As you walk through the valley of the shadow of death please remember the dominating words are "walk through". May the rest of your journey be filled with happy memories of your great partner.
Thanks to you we are together for our 41st year and we will always remember both of you for the rest of our days.
With love and sorrow

Bits of our past continually fall away. This brings such wonderful memories of our lives enriched by Howard's voice along with the other entertainers at the Great Caruso. Six couples of us would go the dinner occasionally or just hang out at the bar listening to these wonderful people with Howard being so wonderful. Oh, to hear Some Enchanted Evening again!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time. My grandmother Rosa Kruse and Howard's mother were sisters. I remember going to see Howard at The Great Caruso and taking my grandmother to see Howard in South Pacific. Too many years have passed since then but the fond memories remain.

Please accept the sincerest of sympathies. Howard and the family lived right down the street from us in Bellaire and my dad worked with him at KPRC. Many times he came to our house to sing with mom playing the piano. I was just a kid. His passing is indeed sad.
