Howard Sipler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 8, 2025.
Howard Dwight Sipler, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 6, 2025, at his home in Virginia Beach after a short battle with cancer.

Howard was born in Darby, PA, on December 3rd, 1935. He attended Friends Central School, where he was highly active, serving as the first Vice President and President of the Boys' Athletic Association, as well as Class Treasurer and later Class Vice President. He also participated in Chorus and worked on the yearbook staff. Howard excelled in sports, playing football, soccer (where he served as Captain), basketball, and his beloved baseball. During his time at Friends Central, Howard, known as "Howie" by his teammates, pitched a no-hitter against the Cadets baseball team, leading his team to a 5-0 victory.

In 1952, he entered Bucknell University, where he met Joan Carberry, whom he described as the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He pestered her until she finally agreed to go out with him. They were married for 62 years until Joan's passing in 2021. He graduated from Bucknell in 1957 with a B.S. in Commerce and Finance and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity where he made lifelong friends.

He entered the Army directly after graduation and proudly served his country for two years as a Second Lieutenant.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Howard began his career with Exxon Company USA where he worked as a Senior Real Estate Representative until his retirement in 1992.

He married Joan on December 20, 1958, in Lansdowne, P.A. They have three married children, Jeffrey (Bobbi) Sipler, Debbie (Larry) Ebeling, and Scott Sipler. He also is survived by 5 wonderful grandchildren and 6 beautiful great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Edith Sipler, 3 sisters and 3 brothers in law.

Howard was an amazing, caring, and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved his family and was the rock they needed. Through his kindness and encouragement, he made a difference in their lives that will be cherished forever.

The family would like to thank Bristol hospice for their support and care.

There will be a viewing on Monday, March 10th at Holloman Brown Funeral 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd. from 9:00 – 9:45, followed by his burial at Princess Anne Memorial Park at 11:00.

Although I only knew Howard a few short years, I easily recognized what an accomplished man and unwavering father figure he was to the family he loved so dearly. I am proud to have known him.

My sincere condolences,
Dale Burnette

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I always enjoyed visiting with him when he was in Cape May Point visiting with my Aunt Jean and Uncle Don. He was a very kind, caring man and will be missed by all who had the honor to know him.
