VICK, ALFRED HUGH _ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Vick of Harris, SK, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Hugh passed away on October 16, 2003 in the Rosetown Hospital. He is survived by a special friend, Florence King of Saskatoon, SK; son, Don (Joy) Vick of Harris, SK and their children, Shauna (Dave) Soloway and Brendon (Sarah); daughter, Irene (George) Murphy of Wainwright, AB and their children, Michelle (Tom) Mohanraj, Blaine (Rolande and Trevor; daughter, Doreen (Herb) Lepp of Lloydminster, SK and their children, Tracie (Scott) Schneider, Jeff (Terra), Brad; son, Allen (Faye) Vick of Harris, SK and their children, Donna (Chris) Adair, Shann (Ted) Skelton and Clinton (Kim); 12 great-grandchildren, Keir and Liam Mohanraj, Colbey Murphy, Hailey, Mathew and Brielle Schneider, Ashlynn Lepp, Christie Bailey and Riley Adair and Shelby and Shae Skelton; sisters, Ester Vicki (Gordon) Phillips of White Rock, BC, Ruth Tellier of Red Deer, AB and Barbara (Ken) Chapman of Invermere, BC; brothers, Jack (Josie) of St. Walburg, SK and Frank (Pat) of Prince Albert, SK; sister-inlaw, Helen Hunter of Victoria, BC; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris in 1986; brother, William in 2001; his father, Harry in 1983 and his mother, Lydian (nee Groff) in 1973. Hugh was born on the farm at St. Walburg, SK, December 2, 1917. He attended school at Deer Valley in the St. Walburg area. He started farming working for a neighbour. Hugh met Doris in St. Walburg while she was working for her sister. Hugh and Doris were married in Tessier on January 2, 1940. They lived in the St. Walburg area. Hugh took a course in mechanics in Winnipeg in 1941. That spring they moved to Harris to work at Jack Miscampbell's garage. The fall of 1941 they moved to Vancouver. Hugh took a welding course while in Vancouver and worked in shipbuilding until he enlisted in the army in 1943. Hugh served two years overseas. He received a head injury, which he recovered from in Belgium. At the end of the war he was posted back in Germany with the occupational forces and was returned home in December 1945. In 1946 he and the family returned to farm in the Bents area with his father-in-law, Jack Perry. After eight years he moved the family to Harris where he operated a John Deere and Ford garage with Frank Garner. Hugh sold his interest in the dealership in 1957 and continued to farm. They sold the farm at Bents and purchased the Ralph Bradshaw farm on the east side of Harris in 1966. Hugh and Doris retired from the farm in 1976, built a new house and moved back into Harris. Hugh was an active member of the community and Canadian Legion. He served on various local boards, Sask. Wheat Pool, Feudal Coop, Tessier, Coop, local telephone and HarrisTessier School boards. The Funeral was held in the Harris-Tessier School gymnasium October 20, 2003. Clements Rosetown Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements. The family has expressed that anyone wishing to make contributions in Hugh's name may do so to the Harris United Church.
