I met Hugo Rossini for the first time in 1999. I had driven down from Cambridge to interview Hugo and his brother Carlo for a story I wrote in Old Autos regarding their years operating Rossini's Hot Rod Shop in the 1950's. I was struck by Hugo's warmth and humour, as well as his sharp memory for detail. All during my interview, he kept asking me who would remember or care about something that happened so long ago. I reassured him that the hot rod shop was a vital and very important part of our past, and that many people do remember the shop and the part it played in that history. The highlight of the interview time I spent with the brothers was actually driving the famoous Rossini roadster through the streets of Chatham with Hugo beside me in the passenger seat. What an honour. It was a pleasure to have met Hugo Rossini, a true pioneer in Ontario's hot rod history!
