Ian attended Great Valley High School in Malvern, PA. His passion for knowledge led him to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Williams College and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, San Diego, specializing in the work of Immanuel Kant. Ian loved teaching and served as a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cincinnati, Antioch University, and Delaware County Community College. He also contributed to academia as an editor of academic anthologies for the Philadelphia Press.
