Ian SEWELL Obituary

July 3, 1923 - April 14, 2023

How lucky we are to have had this gracious man in our lives for so long. He was a loving husband, married to Kathryn (Tatin) Murray for 73 years. Father to Bob (Dolly), Brian (Liisa) and Derek (Deb), grandfather to Nisha, Tassi, Samantha, Jonathan, Lily and more recently, great-grandfather to Molly, Fitz, and Penny. Beyond his immediate family, he touched so many in a positive way throughout his life,
his friends and coworkers in Baie Comeau, Quebec where he spent the majority of his professional career working for Quebec North Shore Paper Company. Among other public achievements, Ian negotiated the merger of the Protestant and Catholic English schools through the department of education in Quebec. Baie Comeau was a playground for Ian and the family at that time. Curling, golf, skiing, fishing, and hunting were a big part of their lives. Family time was paramount for him. He finished his working career in St. Catharines with Ontario Paper Company. Once retired Ian and Tatin moved to their "farm" in Creemore. They enjoyed country living and traveled extensively. In 2000, they moved to Collingwood. Ian was a WWII veteran with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. He was a member of the forces who liberated Holland in 1945. When he returned to Canada, he attended UNB earning a BSc -Forestry. Ian, dad, grandad will always be remembered by so many as a loving, calm, generous, positive man who was always there for us. A gentleman with a passion for life - not a worry in the world. Let us all celebrate this special man and honor the memorable times we spent together. A special thanks to Shannon, Christine, Wes, and Dr. Shurgold and the many others at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre for their compassionate, loving care of Ian in his final years. A family funeral will be held at a later date. Friends may visit Ian's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
