"> Verona R. Edwards
Verona R. Boots Edwards, 82, of Pen Argyl, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah S. and Carl Dobes of Montgomeryville. Born March 11, 1923, in Pen Argyl, she was the daughter of the late William F. Red and Olive E. (Raines) Williams. She worked for 23 years for Pen Argyl Glove Mill until it closed. For that loyalty, she got two weeks notice and no severance. After that, she worked another seven years at mills ironing and inspecting blouses in order to give her three kids all she could and send them to college. She was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both of Pen Argyl, and AARP. She was a 1940 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. In 1945, she married Walter Fat Edwards, who died March 1, when he took a one-day furlough from the Army paratroopers. She lived the rest of her life in the home that she and Walt built just a half block from her parents in 1949. She was 50 years old before she and her husband left the east coast to travel by car to Evansville, Indiana, to see their son get married. People called her many names. To her friends she was Boots or Bootsie, to her father she was Red or Redhead. To her husband she was Verona. To the grandkids she was Mam-Mam or MiMi, and to her kids she was Mom. With her warm heart, she befriended everyone she met. Living across from the high school, she was able to touch many generations. Each school year introduced a new group of students. Of course, there were always a few she had to straighten out, yet friendships developed. The high school kids even made her strawberry shortcake for her 80th birthday. Goodbye to our mother, our mentor, our teacher, our coach, our idol, our hero, our familys inspiration, our dads best friend and by far the most amazing woman we will have ever known. We will miss you every day and we will always try to make you proud. Survivors: Sons, Kim Edwards and his wife Mary of San Francisco, Calif., Robert Edwards and his wife Ellen of Hampstead, N.H.; daughter, Deborah Dobes and her husband Carl of Montgomeryville; grandchildren, Brian, Madigan, Spencer and Myles Edwards, and Angela and Andrea Dobes; brothers, Morris O. Buddy Williams and Robert D. Williams, both of Pen Argyl; sisters, Norma M. Duloc of Bangor, Jane O. Wedge of Dover, Delaware. In addition to her husband, a sister, Frances Sis Jones, and a brother, William E. Williams, died earlier. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Pen Argyl. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl. There will be a visitation one hour prior to services Wednesday. Contributions: The family requests memorial donations be offered to Faith United Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 307, Pen Argyl 18072 or to a charity of choice.

To the family of Bootsie:

Bootsie and I played Pinochle with our card club for 15 years. We had wonderful days of good-hearted banter. She was such a refined lady and a good friend. I'll miss her.

Even though I am living in Seattle, my thoughts and prayers go out to our family. We will always remember you Aunt Boots and we will continue to make you proud.
