Iona West Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2004.
Funeral services for Iona West, 94, East Moline, are 10 a.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. West died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.
Iona McDowell was born Nov. 24, 1909, in South English, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Younkin) McDowell. She married Farmer West, Oct. 1, 1932, in Clarksville, Mo. Iona was a volunteer for the Moline Pilot Club, and a member of the Oakridge, Tenn., Order of the Eastern Star. She was a beautician and cosmetologist, but preferred being a homemaker. She was a supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always ready to attend a family or school function, or whip up that special snack. She was a great cook who made the best beef and noodles ever and her homemade french fries cooked in bacon grease were a special treat.
Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to Alzheimer's Research.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shelva and John King, East Moline; granddaughters and spouses, Yolonda (King) and Scott Lawson, Chillicothe, Ill., and Karla (King) and Todd Dennhardt, Peoria, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Lawson, Michelle Lawson and Reagan Dennhardt.
Her husband of 65 years, Farmer, and a brother, Carl McDowell, preceded her in death.
