Ira Blair Thompson, 78, a resident of Dayton passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

He was born on October 14, 1940 in Upper Tract, WV, and was the son of the late William and Fannie Hazel Grogg Thompson.

Ira was a lifelong resident of the Dayton area. He was a member of Victory Fellowship Church and Peak Pentecostal Church. He was retired from Cargill after 30 plus years of service.

He loved gardening, hunting, and in his early years farming, he loved his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Patricia Fink and husband, Benny, of Rockingham, Tammy Atkinson and companion, Jay Crawford of Singers Glen, and Shawn Thompson and wife, Monica, of Dayton; grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher, Travis, Kayla, Brian, Brittany, Cole, Lucas, and Elizabeth; one great-granddaughter, Haylee; daughter-in-law, Sharon Thompson; sisters, Juanita "Sis" Driver, Trudy Cooper and Betty Waggy; and a half-brother, William "Bill" Grogg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Caldwell Thompson, a son, Kenneth W. Thompson; and two half-brothers, Emory "Bud" Grogg and Brian Grogg.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A funeral service will be held 11 am, Friday, February 22, 2019 at Victory Fellowship Church, 3206 Limestone Ln., Dayton, with Pastor W. L. "Sonny" Henkel officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Clinton Mennonite Church Cemetery.
