Irby Starke, Jr. Charleston - Irby T. Starke, 78, of Charleston, SC passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at MUSC in Charleston after 1 year of declining health with family and friends by his side. He was born January 23, 1942 in Salisbury, NC to the late Irby T. Starke and Janie Crowell Starke of Salisbury. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmie Lee Tucker of Lexington, NC and Springfield, TN. He attended Salisbury city schools and graduated from Carlisle Military Academy. He was a US Army Veteran (2nd PSYOPS) and a Vietnam Veteran. In the 1960's and early 1970's he was co-owner of a popular noted dance club in Salisbury called, "The Keg", with wife Charlotte Diane Fuller Starke. He was also employed in the auto sales industry and the civil service with the US Navy. He was an avid Fisherman winning an outstanding angling achievement award in the 7th annual Charleston Trident Fishing Tournament. He was also an avid and noted dancer, specializing in the Carolina Shag, and revered by many as one of the best. A graveside memorial service will be held at City Memorial Park at 1 PM on Wednesday (Jan. 20) with Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard conducting military honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Starke family. he was a true friend we talk two or three times a month he sure did miss Salisbury especially College barbecue I didn't get down much to see h i m but I would always taken BBQ God bless the family
