Irene Coakwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 5 to Sep. 6, 2006.
IRENE EVELYN COAKWELL May 11th, 1930 September 2nd, 2006 Irene passed away peacefully at City Hospital surrounded by her family. Irene was born and grew up in Dodsland, SK. After high school, she moved to Saskatoon and completed a secretarial course at Saskatoon Business College. Irene worked at Campbell, Wilson and Smith after Business College, then with Eaton's until her retirement, 22 years later. She enjoyed many family trips to Barbados and Phoenix, and for the past several years, Irene and Floyd loved spending the winter months going to their home in Mesa, Arizona. She loved having family suppers, not just on special occasions, but any time of the year. She also loved gardening with flowers and was always helping one of her kids with something she loved to do. Irene and Floyd had many close friends in Mesa, AZ as well as in Saskatoon who she loved spending time with. Irene had a heart of gold, and would always make sure that someone wouldn't go without; she would always put someone else first before herself. Irene will be sadly missed by her husband, Floyd aka "Coke Gus " of 57 years, her sons, Rick (Val) Coakwell of Calgary, AB; Barry (Lorraine) Coakwell and her daughters, Memory Turchyn (Frank); and Cindy (Terry) Sampson, all of Saskatoon, SK; her grandkids, Carly, Tammy and Casey, all of Saskatoon; Ashley and Collette and Chad of Calgary, whom all hold a special place in Irene's heart; one sister, Marlene Hayakawa of Phoenix, AZ and one brother, George (Mable) Wallis of Edmonton, AB. She is predeceased by her parents, Harold and Gladys Wallis and brother, Grant Wallis. She will be fondly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at City Hospital on 3rd Floor; Pod 4 and 6th Floor Pod 1 and 2 for the special care they gave Irene, and a special thank you to Dr. H. Baldwin for his ongoing advice, support and compassion during Irene's illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 7th 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church (521 Vancouver Avenue North). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation (701 Queen Street Saskatoon, SK S7K 0M7). Arrangements in care of John Schachtel MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200).

May the Good Lord bless and help you at this sad time. My sincere condolences to the family. Hi Coke, just a voice from the past, you Irene, Ted and I were the best of friends when little Ricky was born. That time seems so far away and long ago. Peace!!
