Irene Dussault Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 15 to Jun. 18, 2023.
Irene M Dussault Shrewsbury - Irene M. Dussault, 94

Longtime Shrewsbury resident, Irene M, (Siemaszko) Dussault passed away on April 12 at Shrewsbury Nursing & Rehab Center with her children by her side.

Irene was born in Worcester to Maria (Rudzinski) and Casimir Siemaszko as one of five children. She was predeceased by John, Hedwig (Pat) Ushinski and Edward. She is survived by her sister, Helen Kerber of Shrewsbury, many nieces and nephews and their families.

She married Donald Dussault in November of 1949 and together they had three children, Donald Jr, Denise and Richard, settling in Shrewsbury in 1960 to raise their family and run the business they started with her sister and brother-in-law, Joseph and Pat Ushinski. Years of hard work by the two couples allowed them to grow the business from The Center Dairy Bar to include The Lantern Room, both of which were landmarks in the center of Shrewsbury for many years.

Upon Don's death in 1996, Irene chose to remain in Shrewsbury in their home, keeping busy with card games at the Shrewsbury Senior Center, numerous bingo games at area churches, her house at the Cape and travelling to see her family in Germany each Easter. She was always ready for a new adventure and was willing to try anything once. She loved us all with everything she had in her and was so proud of everything her family accomplished. It did not matter if you were her child, a sibling or a niece or nephew - she bragged on all our milestones and successes and was not shy about sharing her pride in us.

In 2014, she decided to move to the Willows of Worcester and "take it easy". Her activity level never decreased as she added water walking and other activities to her new life.

Irene is survived by her children, Donald and his wife, Evelyn of Stockach, Germany, Denise and her husband, Richard of North Brookfield and Richard and his wife, Ellie of Worcester. She was the proud Gramma to Tina Perkins of Worcester, Marty of Post Falls, Idaho, Daniel of Munich, Germany and Dominic of Stockach, Germany. Irene was a wonderful Gigi to her great-grandsons, Thomas and Arthur Perkins, sharing hours playing games and swimming with them in the pool at the Willows. She did not get to meet her newest great- grandson, Leo Dussault of Stockach, Germany, but knew that he was on his way to Dominic and his wife, Jenny.

Please join us on Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 am at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury Center for a graveside service to celebrate all that Irene was to us. Please don't wear somber clothes, she would rather we be cheerful. So bring your smiles and memories of Irene to share.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Second Chance Animal Services, 111 Young Road, East Brookfield, MA 01515. Irene loved animals, especially her poodles, and would be thrilled to help animals through Second Chance.
