Iris Faith Hughes passed away on June 29, 2024, at the age of 91. Iris, the eldest of four children, was born Nov 23, 1932, in Glen Cove NY. Iris's early life was spent in Glen Cove with her parents Julia Hults and Henry Hegeman and siblings Ethel, Wilfred and Julia. She met her husband Dana Hughes in 1950 and were blessed with two daughters, Pam and Wendy. The family traveled and lived in various states in support of Dana's United States Air Force assignments.

Iris worked as a purchasing agent at Moffett Field CA (1972-79) finally returning to Glen Cove and working for the United States Marine Corps in Garden City NY into the 1990s. Following her retirement Iris volunteered as an EMS ambulance driver in Glen Cove. Iris was also a former member of the Glen Cove Cedar Swamp Historical Society.

Iris was an avid puzzle solver and enjoyed lively conversation and good food. She lived her last years living in and around Riverhead NY where she enjoyed bingo and membership in the Red Hat Society.

Iris is survived by her half-siblings Wilfred and Julia, daughters Pam and Wendy, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, six nephews and three nieces.

Iris was laid to rest at East Hillside Cemetery in Glen Head NY.
