Glen Friedrichsen

YORK, Maine - Glen Friedrichsen, 89, died peacefully Sunday, January 13, 2019 at home surrounded by loved ones after a yearlong battle with cancer. Glen was an accomplished man. He was born in Kiron, Iowa on August 18, 1929.

While still very young, Glen worked many different jobs to help support his family. Shortly after graduating from high school, he entered the Air Force. Thanks to the GI Bill, he attended and graduated from the University of Iowa. There he met and married Maryann Heng. While he was in university, he was recruited by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and they moved to Akron, Ohio. Due to his job they moved many times and spent many years in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Glen became Vice President, Chief Operations Officer of Motor Wheel, a subsidiary of Goodyear, where he was responsible for supervising six plants and over 6,000 employees.

After retiring, Glen and Maryann traveled extensively. They settled in New England to be near their two children: Peter and Heather (Andrews) of Shelburne, Vt., and Christine and Michael Mawn of Tewksbury, Mass., and their four grandchildren, Anne and Catherine Mawn, and Alex and Emily Friedrichsen. Glen was a devoted husband to Maryann until her passing due to illness.

On September 17, 2011 Glen married Patricia Day. He embraced her family lovingly including her four children: Tricia, Michael, Kristen and Melissa and her seven grandchildren.

Glen leaves a sister, Joyleen, married to Denny Swanson of Colorado, and a brother, Clarence, and Ruby (Schultz) of Kiron, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews and very dear friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, but most of all for being a true gentleman. Glen was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

SERVICES: As he wished, he will be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean near the Maine coast. There will be a private celebration of his life in February.
