I looked up some old friends from days gone by and was so sad to hear that Irmgard had passed. She was a wonderful person, a good professor and social advocate for higher education. I'm sure if there is a heaven, Irmgard is there...RIP Friend, you will be missed!

Irm was a special person treating her students with respect and love. She told the story about a man who told her that he liked blondes. It was at that moment that Dr. Bocchinno should him a lock of her brown hair as she looked at him with her brown eyes. She made the point then that she moved on choosing to have relationships with persons who loved her fir eho she was.

I have known Irmgard Bocchino during my time at Broward Community College Central Campus. My biggest guilt is that I didn't have her as a teacher- I would have learned a lot from her. I am crying inside. I do envy her being around such great kids. Goodbye angel. Goodbye Irmgard. This BCC Seahawk misses you. I will see you in heaven. My first teaching job after college was for Dr. Bocchino. She encouraged and inspired me to be a better teacher and learn from my students. I am thankful that I knew her. She was a blessing to others.

When I was attending Broward College I was struggling financially. She was able to help me out with a scholarship that allowed me to finish my degree. I am now an Ed.S., have a wonderful family, and have an exciting job. I wanted to share this with her and thank her for helping me out in such a key moment in my life. It's not that we were super close or even that I was a stand out student in her class. I say this because her kindness extended to everyone, no matter what. She saw I needed help, and that's the type of person she was. Because of her I am a better person. Dr. Bocchino, your work and kindness live on in everyone you touched. Thank you for being a part of my life.

Irmgard Bocchino ,I can't believe you are gone.I have only just found out all the way here, in the U.K. I treasure the memories always of you and your delightful family so kind to me as a young man in Hollywood Florida in the late sixties.Your vibrancy ,your intellect,warmth and your will to win is something I always will remember. I was greatly saddened when I read of Dr Bocchino's passings. I was "one of her stars" in the early seventies at Broward Community College. I must say she really touched my life. I will never forget the great classes I had with her and how she really knew how to build someone's confidence. What a special soul. I want to express my deepest sympathy to Johanna and the whole family. Johanna, I met you at Sportrooms years ago and was at your wedding. I remember when I found out that Irmgard was your sister. I know she is with G-d and in a good place. We were all so fortunate to have such a special person with us on this earth. Love Helene

I will miss Irmgard and her zest and love for life. She enjoyed people and travel and was truly a wonderful friend, a wonderful supervisor, and a true advocate for all students and BC. Dr. Bocchino had a magical way of capturing her colleagues and students in the Broward College mission. She was a constant beacon for student achievement, always kept us informed of the big picture, and expressed a genuine love for BC students. Each time I was fortunate to interact with Dr. Bocchino was a new opportunity to learn from a well-respected mentor and colleague.

Irm was a major force in my life, and a treasured colleague as well as fabulous fellow traveler. I have never (since Betty Owen) met a more generous person with not only her time but her own money for school projects, donations, and energy. This college owes an enormous debt to Irmgard, and can truly be proud that it produced such an honorable alum! She will be truly missed. I will never forget our many trips together and her amazing generosity and spirit.
