Irvin Layton Obituary

LAYTON – Irvin D., 86, Johnstown, died April 20, 2008, at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin. Born Oct. 9, 1921, in Madera, Pa., son of the late Henry and Ella (Dimond) Layton. Preceded in death by brothers, Homer, Ralph, Charles, Clarence and Richard; and sisters, Geneva, Violet and Eleanora. Survived by wife, Freda I. (Page), to whom he was married for 60 years on March 19, 2008; and these children: Daniel Layton, Pittsburgh; Coleen (Bob) Zimmerman, Ligonier; Calvin (Ellen), Dayton, Ohio; and Brion (Terri), Johnstown. Also survived by 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Henry, married to Vivian (Rummel); sister-in-law, Hazel (Howard), both of Johnstown; and nieces and nephews. Member of Beulah United Methodist Church and the Marine Corps League. Mr. Layton was employed for 40 years with Bethlehem Mines and was a WWII Marine veteran, having served with the 11th Airborne Division. He acquired the WWII Victory Medal, Purple Heart Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan and the Parachute Badge and was a qualified gliderist. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Geisel Funeral Home, where the Marine Corps League will have a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Geisel-Devlin Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Charles Shaffer. Interment, Richland Cemetery. A military graveside rite will be presented by the Johnstown Marine Corps League.

So sorry to hear of Pap's passing. I always enjoyed hearing stories about him, his work and his family.
