IRVIN ROSEMAN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 4 to Aug. 5, 2014.
DR. IRVIN (AL) ROSEMAN After a brief illness, Dr. Irvin (Al) Roseman passed away August 2, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, leaving behind his beloved wife Patricia Morris Roseman; two sons, Mark Roseman of Wilmington, NC and Michael Roseman (Evelina) of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Caroline & Catherine Roseman of Reidsville, NC and Veronika & Nikolay Roseman of Atlanta, GA; and two sisters, Helene (Sam) Lawson of Wilmington, NC and Sue (Karim) Shihata of Tryon, NC. Born in Norfolk, VA in 1941 to Henry and Marjorie Roseman, Al attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he completed both his undergraduate degree (BS) as well as a degree in Dentistry (DDS). Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army Dental Corps in Europe before returning to settle in Wilmington, NC. After practicing General Dentistry for eight years, he completed an Endodontics residency at the University of Detroit in Michigan. Al practiced dentistry in Wilmington, NC from 1970 to 2014. During his career, Al served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry, Chapel Hill, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, Chairman of the Carolinas section of the American College of Dentists, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a Dental examiner for the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies, President of the NC Association of Endodontists and President of the Tar Heel Endodontic Association. Al published several articles and lectured nationwide on Endodontic care. He was a dedicated participant and leader in the local and state Dental Society. Al also served on the UNC System Board of Governors, the New Hanover County Board of Health, the Board of Trustees of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the Board of Directors of the University of North Carolina Hospitals at Chapel Hill. An avid pilot, Al served on the Wilmington International Airport Authority and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Air Wing. Of all of Al's accomplishments, his family, friends, profession and aviation were most important to him. He was a true and loyal friend to many and enjoyed relationships with people from all walks of life. "Pappy" was adored by his grandchildren who loved his boat rides and special way of feeding the fish. His indomitable strength and spirit prevailed throughout his life. He just filled the room whenever he walked in. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Cape Fear Country Club. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday August 5, 2014 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Private interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NC Dental Health Fund, 1600 Evans Road, Cary, NC 27513 to fund the NC Missions of Mercy Free Dental Clinics, which Al supported in every way. Patricia and family, I was truly shocked and sadden when Roddy Jones telephoned me about Al`S illiness. Roddy introduced me to Al over dinner in Raleigh. When I contacted Roddy about going Peacock Bass fishing in Brazil and asked if he wished to invite someone, he replied "yes, and I am sure Al will go". Sure you heard many stories about the trip from Al, and probably exaggerated in his favor. I, we, really enjoyed his company, wit and tales. Know he shall be missed by you, his family and the many friends he made during his life time.
Grace and Peace,

As so many others, I was shocked and saddened to learn about Al's sudden passing, and I send my sincere condolences to his family. Although I only knew him as an Aircrew member in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and only for a relatively short period of time at that, I had very much come to appreciate his kindness and to admire him for his numerous accomplishments in life. Al and I worked side by side under for the National Guard at the Armory Wilmington. We spent a tough few days readying amazing veterans for re-deployment overseas. I learned so much from him as he shared his life stories with us. He was so kind and respectful to our soldiers. He took Colonel Glen Garland and I to lunch and insisted on paying. After a long day he begged me to go flying with him in his plane that was parked a short way from the Armory. I told him I was too exhausted and said we would do it another time.
Al made a great, lasting impression on me, I'm so glad I got to spend time in his presence.

Dr. Roseman will be greatly missed. My sincere condolence and prayer to his family. He was the best endodentist. He preformed my first root canal on Saturday while I was in college(I remember him telling me he was also going to school so that's why Sat. was when he worked on patients)which was over thirty years ago. He had a great way to calm you down and reassure you that it wouldn't hurt. He always made time to talk and therefore became your friend as well. God allowed him to touch everyone he meet in a special way. As stated earlier, he will be truly missed.

Dear Ms. Roseman,

We were saddened to hear of the sudden loss of your husband, Al. On behalf of the men and women of the Sector North Carolina Aviation Program, please accept our deepest condolences.

Your husband's love and support of the Coast Guard was evident through his dedication while an Auxiliarist with Flotilla 10-06. We really appreciated his efforts and assistance to the Coast Guard promoting the Aviation Program in Sector North Carolina. I know that mere words can do little to help you at this time of such great sorrow, but may you find comfort knowing that our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,

Pilots and Crews

Dr. Roseman did my first root canal and I was scared to death--left a note with the receptionist with names of people to call if I fainted or died! Dr. Roseman knew of my fear, and did everything in his power to calm me down and keep me that way throughout the entire procedure. I kept waiting for the pain....and it never came. He even removed my jewelry and cleaned it for me in the autoclave during one of the waiting periods. From that day on, I loved that man and I, like many others, will truly miss him.
