SMITH, Irvin Norton "Smitty"
Passed away peacefully June 24, 2015. He was born May 15, 1920 in Days Creek, Oregon, attended grade school in Taft, CA and graduated from high school in Arroyo Grande, CA in 1939. He moved to Spokane the same year.
"Smitty" served during WWII in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and in Korea. He worked for Great Northern Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years as a fireman and locomotive engineer and retired in 1981. He had many friends as he was a life member of the VFW Post #1474 (over 60 years), the Concordia Blue Lodge, the Scottish Rite – 32nd degree, and the El Katif Shrine. He was also a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer and bowler for many years.
Survivors include son Robert, daughter Susan, and step-son Ron Payton.
The Memorial Service will be Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 4:00pm at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley, WA. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to The Shriner's Hospital.

I am sorry for your loss. I have lived across the street from Smitty for 33 years. He was a wonderful man and hard working. He will be missed.
