Irving Sherman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2023.
Our beloved Irving (Irv) Raymond Sherman passed away peacefully in his home on the 27th of September 2023 at the age of 83. Irv left behind a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community that cannot begin to be measured. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (married in 1978), as well as their three children, Robert Page Sr. (Janice), Laura Molnar (Dave), and Daniel Sherman (Cathy). Irv deeply loved his grandchildren, Robert Page Jr., Shelly Page, Michalah Sherman, Logan Molnar, Brett Molnar, Brandon Molnar, and Alissa Sherman. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Cambria Kalafatis and Kinsley Kalafatis.

As an avid outdoorsman with a passion to serve his community, Irv wore many hats; not only was he a farmer with skill in tractor service, but he was humbled to be part of the Oakley Fire Department for 48 years, with many of those years being served as Captain. Irv also dedicated 48 years as a UA Local 159 Plumber, which just demonstrates his commitment to all he set his mind to.

He was a man of many passions, honors, and names. Irv was known by friends and family as Dad, Grandpa, Pops, Papa, Huge Papa, Big Papa, Bigfoot, Chub, and Plumber. He responded to each of those names with a smile on his face and joy in his heart.

It was no secret that Irv loved deer and elk hunting, along with camping and spending time with his family. Growing up, Irv always involved himself in projects - small and large. He prided himself in assisting his children with the 4-H animals they had. On top of that, he also helped with FFA (including Christmas trees), the fairgrounds, and the Farm Bureau. Irv's presence was always known in the community, which is ultimately what awarded him as Oakley's Citizen of the Year in 2011. He had a special way of touching lives in more ways than one.

In the belief of Irving Raymond Sherman, the final word is always, "Yes, Dear."

Dad, it´s taken me a while to actually sit down and try to put into words how much you meant to me. You walked into our lives with great big boots and we fell in love with you then. You took on 3 little kids and made us yours. We will forever be grateful for everything you did. We never needed anything because you always made sure we got it. You paid for my prom dresses and braces. I will forever miss you. I will love you to the moon and back.

To my father-in-law, Irv,
You are dearly missed. Thank you for being such a great father-in-law and Grandpa. I will forever miss the words "You did alright Cathy", after I would cook you a good meal. Rest in Peace. We love you and miss you.

Grandpa

A name
With so much meaning
Yet a name
That is so simple.

So simply loved.
Yet meaningful.

On Earth I called you grandpa,
In Heaven I call you my angel.

My guardian angel.

You guarded me on Earth,
You protected my heart,
And now as you dance with the angels,
I am safe.

You made your mark on this world,
You extinguished the ugly that this life brings,
And you are a hero.

Our hero.

Our angel.

Grandpa,
This is not a goodbye from us to you.
It is simply a "see you soon,"
A simple,
Yet meaningful,
"See you soon."

As I walk through this life,
Please take my hand,
Guide me,
Protect me,
And watch over me.

For I am your granddaughter,
And though a relationship between a grandfather and granddaughter is simple,
It is meaningful.

See you soon.

Got to meet Irv and Carolyn in 2020 and have lunch with them and my cousin Audrey Belleci. Lovely people and have great memories of them. Irv reminded me of the men in my family that also loved hunting and farming. Go with God. Louise and Arnold Blevins
