Isabel C. Hixson

Services for Isabel C. (Benedick) Hixson, 95, of Chardon Township, will be 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Grace Church of Mentor, 6883 Reynolds Road, Mentor. Pastor Timothy J. Potter will officiate at the service.
Mrs. Hixson passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at her home.
Born July 11, 1915, in Emlenton, Pa., she had lived in Moon Township, Pa. for 30 years, and retired to Leesburg, Fla. where she lived for 16 years. She returned to Northeast Ohio in November, 2002, where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law.
Mrs. Hixson attended Grace Church of Mentor and was a former member of Sharon Presbyterian Church in Moon Township. She earned her bachelor's of arts degree from Clarion State College and her master's of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Hixson was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, having taught Latin and reading for 23 years in the Moon School District.
She is survived by her children, Harry (Janice) Hixson of Plano, Texas, Sylvia (Tom) Boyd of Ocala, Fla. and David (Barbara) Hixson of Chardon Township; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 43 years, Harry M. Hixson, passed away in 1983. She was later married to Stanley Benedick, who passed away in 1989 after two years. Her parents, Lloyd and Harriet (Orr) Crawford; brother, Roy Crawford; and sister, Erma Gerwick, are also deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Graveside service and interment will be held Friday, May 6, at Emlenton Cemetery in Emlenton, Pa.
