Isabel Smith

Isabel Neil Smith, 91, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Charleroi, Fallowfield Township, passed away Monday, April 5, 2004, in Harbor View Manor, Port Charlotte, Fla. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 5, 1912, in California, Pa., to John and Margaret Harris Neil. She graduated from California High School in 1931 and California Teacher's College in 1935. Upon graduation, she taught in Holsopple until her marriage to Howard "Froggy" Smith in May 1937. Mrs. Smith began teaching in the Charleroi area in 1948 and retired in 1973. Most of her 25 years of teaching were at the Fallowfield Township building. She had a great love for reading, which she passed on to her daughters and many of her students. Mrs. Smith also enjoyed boating and traveling with her husband, especially after their retirement and move to Punta Gorda in 1975. She is survived by two daughters, Jan Rae Newnam of Arcadia, Fla., and Arta "Ting" Fox and husband Albert of Charleroi, Fallowfield Township. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard in February 2003; one sister, Ethel Kunzler; and two brothers, Robert and Wesley Neil. Funeral services and interment will be held Thursday, April 8 at CHARLOTTE MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME and MEMORIAL GARDENS, 5200 Indian Springs Cemetery Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. 33950.
