GARRATTSVILLE _ Isabel Turnbull Winters passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, following a long illness.
She was born in the town of New Lisbon on May 26, 1926, and was the daughter of George and Vivian (Rockwell) Turnbull. Isabel was a lifelong resident of Garrattsville.
An alumnus of Morris Central School, Isabel graduated from Powelson Business School of Syracuse in 1945.
She married Stephen Arthur Winters on Aug. 31, 1947. Steve passed away in February 2008.
Isabel was a lifelong member of the Garrattsville United Presbyterian Church and served as the youth choir director for many years. Isabel was the secretary at Morris Central School for more than 20 years.
She was active in the Morris Alumni Association, and enjoyed bowling and golf.
Isabel was an accomplished seamstress, who sewed wedding gowns for her three daughters and her daughter-in-law. Steve and Isabel traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada.
Isabel is survived by a son, Timothy, and his wife, Patricia, Winters of DeRuyter; and three daughters, Stephanie and her husband, Donald Ragone, of Delmar, Cynthia and her husband, Daniel D'Amboise, of Ballston Lake, and Janet Winters and her husband, Lee Thomassen, of Stewartstown, Pa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Downs, Elizabeth and Jason Winters, Alison Ballou, Brien Ragone, Michael, Andrea, and Leia D'Amboise, Ian, Sarah and Miranda Thomassen; as well as nine great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Calvin Ballou, Charles and Thomas Ragone, Neyla, Evan and Cassandra Downs, Isabel McReynolds and Graycie Barber.
In addition, Isabel had four brothers, Howard (Priscilla) Turnbull of Edmeston, Bruce (Beverly) Turnbull of Garnet Valley, Pa., James (Marie) Turnbull of Hershey, Pa., and the late John (Ruth) Turnbull of Mount Vision; and one brother-in-law, Richard (Carol) Winters. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Isabel will be remembered for her sense of humor, enthusiasm for adventure and devotion to her family.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at the Garrattsville United Presbyterian Church, and will be followed by burial in the Butternut Valley Cemetery (Brick Schoolhouse).
Memorial contributions can be made to the United Presbyterian Church, Garrattsville, NY 13342 or the Activities Department of the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 330 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820-1298.

I just read in the Oneonta Star of Isabelles passing away. We want you to all know that our thougts & prayers are with you.
