Kearney resident, 89

KEARNEY - Iva E. Schroeder, 89, of Kearney, formerly of Elm Creek, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Mother Hull Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Elm Creek with the Rev. Jeremy Jech officiating. Burial will be at Overton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at O'Brien-Straatmann Funeral Chapel in Elm Creek.

She was born Aug. 7, 1920, in Campbell to Horace and Alta (Andersen) Parks.

On Feb. 8, 1941, she married Edward Schroeder. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Schroeder and his wife, Betty, of Holdrege, Benny Schroeder and his wife, Brenda, and Mark Schroeder and his wife, Cindy, all of Elm Creek, and Randy Schroeder and his wife, Kathy, of Cozad; daughter, Jean Moore and her husband, Calvin, of Elm Creek; daughter-in-law, Vickie Schroeder of Elm Creek; sister, Ilene Spahr of Grand Island; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She attended school at District 39 in Franklin County through the eighth grade. She and Edward lived and farmed in the Elm Creek-Overton area, and she worked at Plectron and Baldwin. They moved into Elm Creek from the farm.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Elm Creek, Christian Women's Fellowship, Fireman's Auxiliary, As U R Club and the Elm Creek Senior Citizens, where she served in various positions. She enjoyed gardening and latch-hooking.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene Johnston and her husband, Roger; son, Andrew Schroeder; grandson, Ryan Johnston; brother, George Parks; sister, Ruby Callander; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials are suggested to the church or the Elm Creek Rescue Unit.
