Ivy Dalene Mayne Smith, passed peacefully into the presence of our loving Heavenly Father on November 7, 2008, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. At her passing, she was cradled in the arms of her dear husband, surrounded by all of her children, many of her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She was born on the 4th of April 1940, in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Hindley and Ivy Mayne. At an early age, she moved with her family to American Fork, Utah. Upon graduating from American Fork High School in 1958, she attended Salt Lake Business College and certified as a comptometer operator. It was while working in this field that she met the love of her life, Barth Leroy Smith. The two were married on August 14, 1959. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on the 13th of December, 1964. Forty-nine wonderful years of marriage have been filled with abundant, cherished memories. Above all her other loves and talents, she loved her family and the gospel the most. She gave her all to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was the best wife and mother anyone could ever hope to have. Her passing leaves a tremendous void which will now be filled with wonderful, cherished memories.Dalene loved so many things. She loved the beauty of God's creation. Countless hours were spent with family in the mountains. While hunting, fishing, and camping, she instilled in each a love for nature and the beauty of this world. She loved music. She learned to play the violin, and had a sweet and pleasing voice. She sang in various chorale groups, often singing to warm the hearts of women's groups, those in rest homes, and in church services. She loved to quilt, and her quilts will be cherished all the more by her children and grandchildren. Lately, despite such physical limitations from a 40 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and more recently, Pulmonary Fibrosis, she was working on yet another quilt for a future great grandchild.Dalene loved to garden, to cultivate flowers, and to cultivate her skills in many ways. She learned to paint: watercolors, ceramics and porcelain. She loved to decorate. She loved the beauties and wonders of the world and instilled in everyone the same loves. Above all, she loved family. The eternal nature of families motivated her to work in the Temple. She looked forward to the day when Heavenly Father would show her all of His creations and the beauties He created. For each of us, one of His most magnificent creations was our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She has taught each of us to love. To know how to love is such an eternal gift. Thank you for teaching us.She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years and counting, Barth Leroy Smith of Spanish Fork, Utah; Dennis and Susan Smith of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Sharlene and Kevin Parker of Spanish Fork, Utah; Craig and Linda Smith of Boise, Idaho and Michelle Holt of Roy, Utah as well as 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, one brother, Kenneth (Karen) Mayne and sisters, Ella (James) Wudel; Gayla (Ron) Morrill, and Carol (Garth) Croft.
