Long-serving magistrate and local councillor Mr James McGinley (78), of Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe, was cremated at Sherwood Forest crematorium, Boughton, after a service at St Joseph's RC Church, New Ollerton.
Born at Lochore, Fife, Scotland and educated at Lochore Primary School and Cowdenbeath High School, Mr McGinley, who had lived locally for 64 years, had worked as an electrician at Thoresby Colliery, retiring in 1986 after 39 years' employment.
He was a trade union representative, NUM president at Thoresby Colliery, a local parish and county councillor, a JP for 23 years and a member of the police authority. His other interests included being a keen gardener and fisherman and then in later years he liked car booting and going on holidays.
Mr McGinley, who died at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, leaves his wife, Mrs Pamela McGinley, son David, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
