Virginia Beach - J. Waverly Pulley III, 71, died suddenly on July 2, 2017 in Virginia Beach.

Born on May 19, 1946, in the city of Franklin, Virginia, to the late Junius Waverly Pulley Jr. and Shirley Walthall Pulley, he and his siblings were raised in Courtland, Virginia. Waverly leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 years, Patricia Griffin Pulley; their three children, Jennifer Pulley Bibbo (Michael) of Norfolk, VA; LeeAnne Pulley Wright (Jeffrey) of Richmond, VA; and Waverly Ryan Pulley (Niki) of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren Sophia, Griffin, Julia, Lucy, Kennedy and Hudson; a brother, Glenn Walthall Pulley (Pam) of Danville, VA; a sister, Janice Pulley Lester (David) of Midlothian, VA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Pamela Pulley Katz. Waverly graduated from the University of Richmond in 1968, and after a brief stint in the United States Army, he attended T.C. Williams School of Law, graduating in 1972. He joined Hunton & Williams law firm, where he spent his entire career. Waverly served two terms as chair of the firm's Executive Committee and was an active member of a number of bar associations and served on several professional boards. Since 2013, he devoted his volunteer hours to Sheltering Arms Hospital, and Sheltering Arms Corporation, serving on the board of directors and later, as Chairman of the Board since 2016. In addition to spending time with his family, Waverly most enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, golfing, and biking at the beach. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Cannon Memorial Chapel, University of Richmond, 36 Wilton Way. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Sheltering Arms Foundation, 140 East Shore Drive, Suite 200, Glen Allen, VA 23059.
