Jack Edward Boland IV

Jack Edward Boland IV, born on August 19, 1942, in Christiansburg, Virginia, peacefully passed away on April 15, 2024, at the age of 81 in Sarasota, Florida. Jack was a man of great faith who overcame many obstacles in his life with unwavering determination and resilience.

Joining the military on his seventeenth birthday, Jack proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He was stationed at Killeen Base, Texas, where he worked at the Department of Defense Classified Ordinance Storage Facility under the Defense Atomic Support Agency, and subsequently Robbins Air Force Base. He attributed his military service to saving his life and instilling in him the discipline, virtues, and sense of purpose he needed to have a successful life.

After graduating from his beloved University of Georgia with a degree in Industrial Psychology, Jack excelled in his professional career as a Labor Negotiator representing Brunswick Corporation and Continental Telephone in Virginia. He later transitioned to banking, focusing on employee issues as Personnel Director with NCNB (North Carolina National Bank) and eventually becoming Vice President of Personnel with Bank of America. His career path was marked with admiration by others for his strong work ethic, fair negotiation skills, and dedication to his profession.

Jack believed in giving back to others in need. He along with his wife Gina, began the first ACOA Group (Adult Children of Alcoholics) in Tampa where together they mentored and guided members for many years. Jack was a Dale Carnegie Seminar Graduate and served weekly as a Graduate Assistant for ten years.

In his personal life, Jack was a loving husband to Mary Virginia (Gina) Bennett and a devoted father to Teresa Renee (Terri) McKenna and Jack Edward (Jay). He cherished his role as a grandfather "Dae" to Laura and Lindsay McKenna and maintained close relationships with his son-in-law Joe McKenna and Gina's siblings (Sydney Tankersley, George Bennett & Rita Johnson) and their families in Georgia. He served proudly as "big brother" to Gary and Alan Boland, Michael Paulin, and sister, Renee Arnold. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack Edward Boland III, and mother, Merle (Bandy) Paulin.

Jack's daily laughter and crafty punchlines brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed sharing jokes and stories with his family and friends, playing poker, tennis, and managing his portfolio. In his retirement years his passion for finding travel deals and being a secret shopper reflected his zest for living life and will be remembered by all.

Jack's Memorial Service will be held on May 15, 2024, at 10:30 am at Sarasota National Cemetery. Jack will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his legacy of perseverance, positivity and deep faith live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Donations may be made in Jack's Memory to his favorite charity, BOYS TOWN. www.boystown.org

Jack was a good friend, a valued colleague at BofA, and a frequent tennis opponent when we were much younger. I will miss him and offer my heartfelt condolences to Gina, Terri, Jay, and their family.

I got to know Jack as a tennis team member. He captained several Village Walk teams to first place finishes. He was a tenacious player a winner in every sense of the word. We were down numerous times but he just would not give up and I often heard the words "not on my watch" come out of his mouth and sure enough far more often than not we would come out on top. That's what I remember about Jack. He taught me to never give up no matter the score, I will always be indebted to him for that. I will remember him fondly and will always regret not spending more time with him.

So sorry for your loss- when I think of your Dad - all I can see is his smile. He was so easy to talk to and was always engaging. He had the innate ability to be present and interested in what others were talking about- I think people could sense his genuineness and kindness. The world has lost one of the good ones.

Jack was one of the first people I met when I moved here as a snowbird in 2009. I enjoyed playing cards with him.
He is now with his Lord & Savior and no longer has any pain. May God comfort your family for you loss
