Jack Bryson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 24, 2017.
Jack Ervin Bryson passed away peacefully March 23, 2017 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice Home with family by his side.

Born November 26, 1925 Jack was the oldest of 5 children born to Mary Alice & Doyle Bryson in the Fairfield Community near Walhalla, SC.

Jack is survived by his four children, Wanda Bryson Wells, husband Joe, sons Aaron and Stuart of Raleigh; Paul Bryson, wife Lisa Wallace, son Cody Bryson of Raleigh; Edward Bryson and wife Idonna of Knoxville, Tennessee; Janice Rather, husband John, children Elizabeth Hardy and John Rather II, their grandchildren Caleb and Chase Hardy of Wisconsin. Jack is also survived by siblings Clyde Bryson of Hendersonville, NC and Lois Ayers of Warner Robbins, GA.

Jack was drafted into the Army in 1944, went through training in Georgia and Missouri, and shipped out 11/30/44 for Europe to fight in WWII with the 70th Infantry Division. Serving in the Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. Jack returned home to marry his sweetheart "Genny" in 1946 who had relocated from SC to Washington, D.C. to work at the Daughters of the American Revolution headquarters.

Starting as a file clerk with the Veterans Administration Jack worked several jobs while attending night school for many years to receive his GED, Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Accounting (MBA). Progressing up the ladder with the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. and lived in Maryland for 23 years. He requested a transfer to the Oteen V.A. Hospital (Asheville) to get closer to their "roots" in SC where he was promoted to South-East Coordinator. After retiring in 1980, Jack and Genny moved to the Johnston and Wake County areas for their remaining years.

Jack actively served in the Baptist churches he attended in Maryland and North Carolina, and at the time of passing was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church. Jack and Genny loved the outdoors, especially gardening and fishing.

After Genny's passing in 2012, Jack relocated to the Woodland Terrace Senior Community in Cary and received compassionate support from their extensive staff at all care levels. Through these years, "Team Jack" grew and the family values the support received from the Doctors Making Housecalls team, his Hospice team of staff and volunteers and the extra special relationship he shared with his private-duty caregiver, LaTonya Winfield, from Right at Home.

The family will receive friends March 26 from 2-5 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary. Funeral services will be conducted at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 9300 Penny Road, Raleigh March 27 at 11 am with Dr. David Vess presiding.

Condolences may be expressed by a contribution to the Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Transitions LifeCare of Wake County or by sharing your volunteer spirit within our community.

Jack and Genny were dear friends, expecially during the years that they lived in the Thanksgiving Community and attended Thanksgiving Baptist Church.

They were both beautiful, generous and loving souls. Thoughts of them quickly bring smiles to our hearts. Make no mistake, they are now both in heaven.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences and love.

Eddie, Janice, Paul , Wanda and your families - it was good to see you and share a celebration of your Dads life. I'll always have good memories of a childhood filled with lots of family time visiting aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. I cherish those times and loved my Uncle jack and his "crew". Life is good and family is what makes it that way. Thanks for sharing this time with us

I am so glad to have known Jack and Genny over these many years. I have such fond memories of them on their gentlemans' farm and the enjoyment they had in growing their fruits and vegetables. While visiting their son Paul and his wife Lisa we would walk over to Jack and Genny's and visit as we swung on their porch swing. I remember how Jack loved his workshop and could fix anything. He loved his family and was such a devoted husband as he cared for his wife in her last years. He was a man of deep faith and that was reflected in the way he lived his life.I am thankful for the friendships of Paul and Wanda who were so devoted to their parents. He will be missed but Jack and Genny have left a beautiful legacy in their children. Peg and Wolfgang Friedrich ( Raleigh,NC)
