Mr. Jack Dempsey Godfrey, age 89 of Locust Grove, Georgia went to be with the Lord December 10, 2012. He was born in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Ben and Margaret Bennett Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Francis "Tommy" Johnson Godfrey in 1999 and by children, Jack Godfrey, Jr, Benny Godfrey and Linda Berry, a grandson, Miles Godfrey and by several siblings. Jack served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and retired after 32 ½ years from General Motors. He was a faithful member of Moore's Temple Baptist Church and enjoyed time with his family, being active in his church and working in his yard. Survivors include his children, Kathy (Al) Sears of Lithia Springs, Jimmie (Sharon) Godfrey of McDonough, Lynn (Shane) Hanie of Locust Grove, Lorie (Tony) Carroll of Griffin; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; brother, Buster Godfrey of Talking Rock; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev. Joey Blanks will officiate. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Haisten Funeral Home of McDonough, 770-914-8833, haistenfunerals.com.
