GOOD HOPE - Jack E. King, 77, of Good Hope and formerly of Colchester, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
He was born July 14, 1926, in Colchester, to J.H. and Irene Myrtle (Avery) King.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a partner in Colchester Brick and Tile, an owner-operator of a Butler Building Systems franchise, an owner-operator of Trade Winds Bar in Bushnell, a supervisor at Admiral Corp. plant in Galesburg and he worked in the maintenance department of Robert Morris College in Carthage.
He was a member of the Colchester First Christian Church, the Macomb Veterans of Foreign Wars post, the American Legion and the Colchester Masonic Lodge.
He was a past volunteer firefighter in Colchester.
Survivors include a son, Stanley (Kim) King of Park View, Iowa; three daughters, Sherry La Vingon of Macomb, Cindy (Don) Swartzbaugh of New Philadelphia and Melanie Dawn Brooks of Good Hope; a stepdaughter, Traci King Kline; 14 grandchildren; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Laverne and Keith King; and a son, Brett King.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Jones Mortuary, 217 E. Depot St., Colchester.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, at Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb. The Rev. Chris Williams will officiate.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Grandchildren Education Fund at the First State Bank of Western Illinois.
