Jack Laub Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 17 to Oct. 20, 2010.
Jack Laub, 80, an Alaska resident of 60 years, died August 8, 2010 in Wasilla.

Jack was born June 11, 1930 in Elwood Ind. Upon completion of high school Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was stationed at Elmendorf AFB. Upon completion of his military obligation, he decided to stay in Alaska and went on to own and operate a small outboard engine repair shop. He later returned to Elmendorf as a civilian employee, clearing the runways.

He was the owner and operator of Miller Dalton Marine Supply. He made fiberglass boats for the military, raced snowmachines in the early days and was a member of the Shiners' organization.

Jack most enjoyed his time at "the river". His favorite thing to do was to get into his plane and fly to his cabin, sitting on the porch in the evenings with a glass of bourbon, looking out over the river and wondering what the poor folks were doing today. Jack spent his years following retirement at his place on the river.

He is survived by his wife and partner of 58 years; and his children, Jay M., Jeffrey M. and Jenny M. Laub and Jessie M. Laub-Elkins; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jack was a true Alaskan who did his best in all his endeavors. He helped me immensely with my Susitna River fisheries work w/ADF&G by repairing outboards, constructing fishwheels, and providing an operating base at Susitna Station in the 1970's. His wife, Pat, and him will always be remembered. RIP Jack!

Your father was a true Alaskan and a special person. As a child I remember him showing me how to fiberglass a boat at the shop. Some of my best childhood memories are of our famlies fishing together at Montana Creek.

You have our deepest condolences, Jack was an upfront man and a true Alaskan, who could fix anything. We shared some really good experiences with him at the river
