MENDON, MICH. – JACK C. MILLER, 70 of Mendon, Michigan died Thursday, December 25, 2003 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

To know Jack was to know a very loyal man. Whether it was his family, his job or his patriotism. Jack gave his all to anything he believed in or held dear to his heart.

He was born January 31, 1933 at the family home in Sturgis the second son of Harry & Carmen (Sager) Miller.

Following his graduation from Sturgis High School with the class of 1951 Jack joined the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy he soon married and was blessed with his children, Kimleen Delia Miller Emery and Mark Clifton Miller.

Jack was a graduate of San Jose Community College, San Jose State University and completed his postgraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

He taught Elementary Education in California, Ohio, Colon, MI and Nottawa, MI.

He returned to Michigan in 1969 and married Barbara Holdsworth in Hillsdale, MI.

Jack later left education to pursue a career in plastic technology at Rehau Industries in Sturgis. He also taught evening classes in the technical field at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, MI. Jack was forced to retire in 1990 due to poor health. He loved to travel when he could especially to see his brother Jim and his family in Dexter, Missouri.

He leaves to mourn him his loving wife, Barbara, daughter, Kimleen Emery of San Jose, CA, son, Mark Clifton Miller of California, step-sons, Edward Holdsworth of Mendon, MI and David Holdsworth of Sturgis, MI, grandchildren, Justin Emery, Tommy Jack Holdsworth and Steven W. Holdsworth, brothers, Alfred & Donna Miller of Deltona, FL, Dewey & Suzie Miller of Oregon, James Miller of Dexter, MO, nephew Jauhn & Kristy Miller and niece Shannon Miller and he had many close friends in the Amish community.

His parents and sister, Ann preceded him in death.

Friends and relatives may call at the HACKMAN-Foglesong Funeral Home of Sturgis after 4:00 P.M. Sunday where the family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 P.M. The family will also receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon – 1:00 P.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1111 Galyn St., Sturgis where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. The Bishop Dr. John Clark will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Adams Cemetery, Smoker Rd. in Branch County, MI. where Captain John J. Kelley Post 1355 VFW will confer full military rites.

The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Miller’s memory consider the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
