Jack Mincher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2024.
Windsor - Heaven gained a true legend on July 23, 2024, when John Jackson Mincher, best known as "Jack," 93-years-old and of Windsor, Colorado, passed away peacefully at Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins while surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on August 9, 1930, to Rosella and Esco Mincher in St. Louis, Missouri. After Jack graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1949, he went on to study at Washington University in St. Louis. He then found himself working at Union Station in the city at a drafting board, and once the higher ups noticed his impeccable work ethic and engineering skills, he quickly moved up the ranks, and then onto his next career in the general contracting industry. He eventually owned his own successful business in Denver, Colorado, Mincher Construction, Inc., with his multi-talented wife, Barbara, as the co-owner. He proudly served as president of the Associated General Contractors of Colorado (AGC/C) in 1987, and even has a special "ACE" award named after him called the "Jack Mincher People's Choice Award," which is still presented every year. Even in retirement, Jack was still asked to consult on major construction projects because of his expertise and integrity.

Jack and Barbara Mincher (Horstman) were married on June 5, 1970, at All Souls Church in St. Louis, and they spent the next 54 years together riding horses, having children, owning a business, and enjoying the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Jack and Barbara were true role models of long-lasting love, marriage, and friendship. Jack married Barbara with four kids of his own, Bonnie Booth (Mincher), Sharon Nigus (Mincher), Carol Hahn (Mincher), and John Mincher, and then they went on to have two children of their own, Braun Mincher and Brandy Ferner (Mincher). Jack had 20 grandchildren and even more great-grandchildren, many of whom he taught how to hunt and shoot a gun.

Everyone who knows Jack knows of his love of the mountains, hunting, guns, ATVs and road trips, but one of his most defining traits was his enthusiastic storytelling (including lots of hand gestures!). Jack kept nearly everyone he met entertained and educated by his stories of growing up in the country, closing construction deals, and four-wheeling excursions.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Esco, his mother, Rosella, his sisters Dorothy and Delores, his daughter, Bonnie, and his son, John.

A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, August 10, 2024, in Erie, Colorado. For more information, please visit www.JackMincher.com and RSVP at http://evite.me/JackMincher.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVC), an organization that Jack felt strongly about supporting because of his interest in protecting ATV riding.

When the Associated General Contractors/Colorado (AGC/C) was approached by Nancy Parker, Chair of the Central City Opera Board to lend support to renovation and restoration of many historic structures the Opera owned in Central City, they listened politely and said no thanks. A second appeal was arranged by the AGC/C Marketing Director and at a rather tense board meeting, Jack Mincher stood and said, "let's give this a try." He later chuckled he didn't think a little opera would hurt the AGC/C members any. Jack engaged Larry Snow of Snow Construction to be co-chair for the endeavor and restoration of the opera house was begun, with a fundraising campaign and recruitment of volunteers to begin the work of replacing rotted oak timbers, preserving the three-foot thick stone foundation walls and giving another life to the opera house, which was sinking into Gregory Gulch.

This project was ongoing, with additional restoration at the Teller House and other significant structures in Central City. Jack was proud of this endeavor, which won the Colorado Governor's Award to the Arts and ensured the opera lovers of Colorado and beyond would continue to enjoy the ongoing summer seasons of wonderful music.
