Jack Ervin Palmer

Jack Ervin Palmer, born December 5, 1933, in Ottawa, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Suisun, California on August 9, 2022, at the age of 88. The son of ministers, Jack was a long-time resident of San Mateo County where he held numerous positions as an auto mechanic, culminating owning Continental Auto Tech which he and his wife Joanne ran from 1987 - 2003. A gifted musician, he and Joanne were Ministers of Music at various churches in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Open Bible Church, Calvary Cross Church, Glad Tidings Temple, Westlake Community Baptist Church, First Church of the Nazarene, First Baptist Church of San Bruno, and Church of the Highlands.

Jack truly loved young people and was instrumental in building choirs and orchestras that got kids inspired about the "good news." His impact and influence are still felt by many of those "kids" today. He directed many oratorios and musicals, including "Purpose." It was truly his purpose to dedicate his life to church music. During the 1970s, Jack and Joanne and their three children performed as The Palmers Gospel Singers and Musicians.

Jack was also a choral member of The San Francisco Symphony Chorus, The Lamplighters, the Paul Weaver Chorale, the San Mateo County Choral Society, and the Opera Players Group of San Francisco.

Since 2007, he resided in American Canyon, California and was a member of the North Hills Church of Vallejo where he directed the Handbell Choir. He was also a member of the Vallejo Symphony Chorus and the American Canyon Singers. In addition, he played piano for 10 years for the Tremble Clefs - a group of individuals afflicted with Parkinson's Disease - with Joanne as Director.

He is survived by his wife of 67 and a half years, Joanne, children David (Kathy), Susan (Alexander "Sandy" Marshall) and Dean (Julie), granddaughter Megan (who they raised since age 5), 10 other grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Joy Hall and Robyn Tatham, step-siblings Dorathy Broussard, Earl Sorensen, Karen Sorensen; several nieces and nephews and "adopted" daughters Donna Pascucci and Marta Laiolo Grelli. Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
