Jack Pickett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 3 to Mar. 4, 2023.
A Andrew Jackson Pickett, Jr (Jack)

07/02/1932 - 02/23/2023

Faith and love of family were the important things in Jack Pickett's life. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved with his whole heart. The only child of Andrew and Mary Pickett, he was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. He is survived by Dana, his wife of 51 years. Their marriage is a story of happiness, devotion and precious love for one another. He is also survived by his cherished family. Son, Jeff Pickett and wife Kerry. Daughter, Jody Massey and husband Steve. Grandsons, Bradley Massey and Brandon Massey and Great Grandson, Jack Massey.

Jack excelled in all athletics. He played ball at Hope Valley High School, college basketball at Appalachian State, then attended and graduated from East Carolina University where he ran track. He served our country in The US Army, ran track for the US Army team and competed in the Olympic trials. Jack loved life. He loved God, home, family, friends, travel, sports, snow skiing and was an avid and accomplished golfer.

He enjoyed every minute of his career in the furniture business. Always a top producer, he was a Manufacturer's Sales Representative for Broyhill Furniture, Benchcraft Furniture, and an independent Broyhill Distributor. When he retired from that career, he and Dana built homes on the beautiful beaches of Navarre Beach, Florida.

He took great joy in inspiring and helping others to succeed and better themselves. His guidance and support touched many lives and careers. He was sincere and had integrity. He was an optimist and never complained. He was a great listener. A great friend.

His legacy and his love will live in our hearts forever.

A memorial to celebrate his life will be held in the spring. Memorial Donations: voasela.org/adoption

So sorry when we heard the news of Jack's passing. A dear friend of 53 years, met Jack in 1970. He introduced me to Broyhill, where I worked many years, also to investing at Navarre Beach, Florida. Both were great pluses in my life.
He loved both of our children from birth to adulthood, always inquiring as to what they were doing in their lives. He always encouraged my family, and I'll miss our phone calls a lot. We are so glad we made it to his 90th birthday last July.

Barrett & I are saddened by Jack’s passing.
He represented Texas to us in all its mighty & entrepreneurial spirit of the 70’s. He did everything successfully. We always think of the family with awe & affection. We’re surprised Kia
dreamt of him 3 days after his passing. A sure sign family lives in our hearts. We’re thinking of Dana and what must be overwhelming grief at his loss. They were bonded with love.
And it started with her hot white go-go boots.

Dearest Dana, Jeff, and Jody,

I woke from a restless night this morning thinking of Jack and your family. I have tried to find you all online in the past, to no avail. I don´t know where each of you live so it´s hard to pinpoint. We have so many fabulous, fun memories of wonderful time spent together in Houston and Navarre Beach. So, before even getting out of bed this morning, I again Googled Jack and Dana Pickett and I found his obit. I´m so glad to find you, but, am so very sorry Jack is no longer with us. He was a great man - one of the best!! Everyone loved Jack. This gets even more small world; I now live in Asheville near his alma matter Appalachian State. My family would love to reconnect with you. Please tell me how we can reach you? With love and sincere condolences,

Kia Walker
