Jack Pixley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 2, 2011.
Pixley, Jack L. Age 66, of Andover. You may think this has not been a very good day for me. But it was the best, for now I get to be with Jesus. I was preceded in death by my special friend and canasta player, Grandma Mary Pixley; by my wonderfully supportive mom and dad, Violet and Ed Pixley; my loving sister, Mildred Morstead; my super godparents, Uncle Howard and Jeanette Pixley; and many other family and friends too numerous to list here. Despite their long wait for me, I was in no hurry to leave as I always had one more praise worship song to sing, one more loved one to pray for, one more trip to make with my blessed wife, Kathy, either to Florida or to Germany to see our wonderful 2nd family, Sepp and Therese Zoitl, one more song to teach our grandchildren, one more lasting memory to make with all those lives I tried to touch. I know many godly people touched mine. But I must go now and leave these special tasks to our children, their children and my friends. They have made me proud while I lived and I'm confident they will do me proud now that I'm gone. So say a prayer of thanksgiving, smile as you recall a good memory, celebrate with each other and then get on with your own lives. There is so much to do if we are to "make a difference" in this world. God has been so good and my life was so blessed. I want this for all of you as well. Take care of your loved ones and friends. Remember the most important things in life are not things. I am confident that if you continually pray for wisdom and discernment, you will be a blessing to all those around you. And remember, I'll keep a light on and be waiting for you. Love Jack, Dad, Grandpa Jack, and your friend, The Chimney Sweep. Funeral services Saturday, Jan. 8, 10:30 AM at Oak Haven Church, 1555 Constance Blvd. NE, Ham Lake. Interment Morcom Cemetery, Bear River, MN. Visitation Friday 5-8 PM at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, 13817 Jay St. NW, Andover and also one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Thank you, Jack, for being the honest expert we could trust for our condo fireplaces. We got the best in you and your company, and I wish I knew more extraordinary people like you. Your family and friends are very blessed.

Jack was a great teacher and a wonderful story teller. He was always willing to share his knowledge of chimneys and fireplaces. One of the best lessons he taught me was to first listen to the customer. Before entering into a long discussion about chimneys and fireplace safety, simply ask if they intend to use the fireplace. There is no point in lecturing someone about something they will never use. I will really miss Jack. My sympathy to his family.

Jack was a great guy. He taught my three children and we remember how he would take their best projects to the State Fair. I got to know him better when I volunteered for a teacher across the hall. We would stop to say hi at the fair. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Polly, Leroy, Scott, Jane, and Peter Harmon

In addition to his great faith in God, Jack also had great faith in the people around him. He has touched us all. His wisdom, vision, and care for others was no less than amazing. In troubling times you might ask, "What Would Jesus Do?", but if you don't know Jesus, you might ask yourself, "What Would Jack Do?", and you will surely be headed in the proper direction. Jack followed the right path and he'll be more than happy to help you find Jesus and guide your way. God rest your soul, Jack.

In Memory of[ Jack L. Pixley ]

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered “come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Jack was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was a true mentor for many in the chimney sweeping industry, always willing to share his vast experience and knowledge. I did an interview with Jack in 2010 for a documentary film on chimney sweeps, where he will be able to keep teaching new sweeps for a long time to come.

You will be missed by many Jack.

January 4, 2011

Jack was one of the best Sweeps in the country and even swept the chimneys at our nations White House. He was also an outstanding teacher in Anoka Hennepin School District. He taught two of our sons the Sweeping Trade, including how to build an Ahrens Chimney without seams or joints. Jack was always willing to share information and advice. It was an honor to know you Jack.

God Bless You and Your Family.

So sorry to hear of Jack's passing, tho as I read his obit, it made me realize that he was so ready and so happy to finally be with his Lord..and at peace!
I worked for Jack for a couple years and I loved his spirit and the joy in his face when he could stop in the office for one of our birthday parties and could then sing "Happy Birthday"...he loved that we wanted him to sing...and he sang it so well and 'from the heart'!!
I have many fond memories of my days at Pixley Chimney Sweeps....(smile)!
To Kathy and all Jack's family, I send my very deepest sympathy as you go this difficult time of loss. God be with you as you mourn....tho, Jack wants you to be 'happy'!
He left you all with many great memories to cherish...they will help bring smiles thru the sadness!
Once again...to ALL...I extend my sincere sympathies!

What can i say about Jack that has not already been written. I met Jack when i was young in this industry back in 1981 in Springfield MA. I was i my 3rd year of part time sweeping and now finally full time at this point. Jack met me with a smile and shook my hand and welcomed me into the sweeping convention. I remember that and many more times i sat with jack and talked about business and learning and his life and mine and about his family and then mine. We could talk for hours and always a smile. He also came out to Massachusetts to visit and i met him for lunch and we talked some more. To me he was an Angel on this earth always with a smile and always wanting to do more some how What a gift jack has been in my life and so many more. I miss his smile and i know he is up there looking after all of us now. Thanks Jack for truly blessing this world with your presence. I am truly glad i got to know you and you got to know me.

We would like to thank Jack for being such a good friend over the years and especially this past year. Frequently seeing Jack at Mayo gave us hope along the way. Although we can no longer "hook-up" at Mayo we will again "hook-up" in God's house. We thank you Jack for your true friendship over the years. Until we meet again!

You couldn't meet Jack without knowing that he loved the Lord. I have fond memories of the Phenominal job he did in the Play 1940's christmas. One of the best we've ever done at church and much of the credit goes to him. What a heart he had for ministy and what a joy to be around.

Kathy and family may God comfort you in this time of loss.

We are so thankful for our friendship with Jack Pixley over the years, and send our deepest sympathy to Kathy and to the entire Pixley family. So many memories of Jack ... we have laughter and smiles even thru the tears, when we remember all the joy and fun he brought everywhere he went.

God bless you all during this time of grieving, knowing that we will be reunited one day soon in heaven. We Christians never have to say goodbye, something another "Jack" once said (who was otherwise known as C.S. Lewis).

God Bless Jack Pixley!

Kathy and all of Jack's family

Please know that the world is a better place due to Jack's presence on this earth. So many walk this earth, but not all can it be said that their being here made a true difference. Jack made a difference to so many, touched so many, and his determination and quest to excel sits as a shining example that others can only hope to achieve in their lifetime.

Tears are in many eyes due to this loss of a guy who touched so many in so many ways and in so many places.

I weep with joy and sadness that a man this strong and beautiful is not among us on earth and yet I do celebrate what I always knew was his truth: "I win either way" whether I live or die. Thank God for the life and witness of Jack Pixley. Blessings and peace to all who need comfort especially to you Kathy. Our support group will always carry his memory in his words, his courage, his smile. Marcia

This candle is a symbol of the light that Jack let shine for a long time. The more he suffered, the brighter it seemed to become. I've had the joy of walking alongside this man for 24 years + about 1 year before we married. It has been a time of extreme growth for both of us as we faced brand new challenges, as well as carried some old ones. I always said that I would never remarry if the man didn't truly love my children, and it worked out exactly this way. The Lord brought Jack into my life just at the right time. That I'll never forget. I've been given so much freedom to grow as a person that I can only be very thankful for these years, even though he is missed a lot already. At times the tears flow and at other times I smile when I think about how he wanted to make sure I had good memories (places we traveled to) after he was gone. Memories...I have many. He's in Heaven with Jesus and probably clicking his heels together as he often used to do.

I will always remember his smile and how he always put others first, he also made the best pancakes I have ever eaten. he got up early to make them on his old skillet, stawberry topping with whipped cream He gave me the recipe a few years ago I think I will make some this week and the leftovers I will butter, sprinkle with sugar and snack on later in the day just like Jack did when we went deer hunting. I wont say good bye but see you again my friend

Jack was a great father figure to many. My boys were extremely fortunate to have another grandfather to look up to and learn from by example. He will forever be missed by our family. We will meet again. Love, Ginny, Rick, Alex, and Matt

What an incredible testimony of God's love shared through the life of a special man. Always a positive spirit and passion for living life and bringing praise and glory to God - even in the midst of such great suffering. While we know Jack is rejoicing in the presence of God, we also know he will be greatly missed.

Jack came to work on a fireplace in a house I was renting in the late 90's.

Jack's obituary displayed the positive spirit he always posessed. My sincerest condolences to the entire Pixley family, both personal and professional. I had the pleasure of knowing him through the Twin Cities Multiple Myeloma Support Group and it was a delight to listen to his stories and philosophies at the group meetings. I also have the pleasure of knowing his family via hockey. His family is a positive reflection of him. He will be missed by many.
