Cincinnati - Jack Shallat, 100, passed away November 5, 2018. Jack was born on September 29, 1918 to Samuel and Augusta (nee: Bloch) Shallat in Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice (nee: MacLean) Shallat, mother of his two daughters. Jack is survived by his daughters Catherine (Shawn) Gavin and Cynthia (Tom) Betcher and by 4 grandchildren, Jenalee (Michael) Hickey, Andrew (Katie) Gavin, David Betcher, and Caitlin (Adam) Forsthoefel. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren. Jack Shallat was a professional violinist who was well known in the Greater Cincinnati area. At 96 years of age, he ended an eight-year engagement as a strolling violinist at Pitrelli's Italian Ristorante in Mason, Ohio. In addition to playing the violin, he was co-owner of Buddy Rogers Music, Inc. for twenty-five years. Family and friends will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Spring Grove Funeral Home. A service to celebrate his life is scheduled on Friday, November 16th, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Spring Grove Funeral Home.
