Jack Ward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 31 to Aug. 2, 2012.
Jack Ward - SAVANNAH - Jack Ward (John T. Ward, III), age 72, died at Hospice House on Sunday evening, July 29th, after having a peaceful day surrounded by family and friends. Virginia was with him when he passed at 10PM. Jack was born and raised in Savannah, leaving only to serve four years in the United States Navy, and during the course of his employment in the motion picture industry, which required him to often be on distant locations for filming. Prior to this, he worked for 10 years at Backus Cadillac Pontiac. Jack loved the water, being in a boat, and fishing. He loved it so much that he and dear friend, Wiley Wasden purchased a shrimp boat together and enjoyed playing shrimpers for a couple of years aboard The Little Mel. In April, 1973, Jack became a member of Solomon's Lodge No.1, F,&A.M. -Savannah. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his dearly beloved Uncle Louis & Aunt Frances Cornell who raised Jack from age 2 as if he was their own son. He adored his Uncle Louie. Jack is survived by his wife, Virginia, daughter, Jacqueline Ward Klein (Mark) and grandson, Max Ward Klein who live in Louisville Kentucky. Raymond Miller, of Savannah, was always considered family and Jackie's brother-from-another-mother. Also surviving are a very special niece and nephew, Al and Debbie Odom Ellisor & their son, Dalton of Pooler, All three, were very dear to his heart and such a comfort to him during his life and struggle with cancer. Additional survivors are nephews Michael Ellisor and Joseph Ellisor. His brother-in-law, Roy Grace of Albuquerque, New Mexico has been a life-long friend and provided much peace and comfort in the last days of Jack's illness. Another brother-in-law, Al Ellisor, Jr. resides in Garden City. There will be no pallbearers, but Jack would want it known that he considered the following his dearest long-time friends who often had his back in their younger days, but had his heart up to the very day he died: Jack Ryals, Jack Keith, Robert Fruitticher, Bobbie Evans, Nelson Haslam, Jamie Keeran, Mike Hobbs and Billy Dalzell. The family gives special thanks to Debbie Sheridan who provided friendship, comfort and emotional support for the last two-years of his life, and was his partner-in-crime, in making the best home-made wine ever produced. A Memorial Celebration of his life, as he wished, will be held on Thursday, August 2nd, from 6 till 8 PM at The Crab Shack on Tybee Island. The family requests that remembrances be made in Jack's memory to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416 in lieu of flowers. Not enough can be said for the care and compassion the Hospice staff showed Jack and his family. From the minute I met Jack he welcomed me into the family fold. His heart was just as big and full as his personality. He will forever be loved and missed.

I am sorry for the loss of your dear husband Jack. I missed a couple days of the obits. I was at The Crab Shack on Thursday for lunch with a friend. When I asked the waitress about you, she told me the situation. May our God of mercy and grace be ever close to you in your time of grief.

Dear Virginia:
I am so sorry for your loss. I am Edna's niece and I also used to live with Aunt Edna and Uncle Louie. I remember when you two would come to visit and yes Uncle Louie loved Jack very much. Uncle Louie passed in August 2000 and I know Jack and Uncle Louie are having a good time being back together. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Virginia, I am so sorry to hear about Jack passing away. He will be missed by so many people. What a fun spirit I am so lucky to have had the chance to spend time with him, "unplugging" on Little Tybee, hearing all the stories along the way. He was for sure a friend of Barbie!
