Jack Weaks

Jack Lee Weaks, 82, passed away on May 27, 2025, in Palmetto, Florida. Born on October 26, 1942, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, Jack lived a life marked by dedication to his work, his passions, and his community.

Jack began his professional journey as a radio DJ in his hometown of Bellefontaine. In 1963, he married Mary Jean Fillinger, and together they embarked on a new chapter when they moved to Florida in 1965. There, Jack built a long and steady career in construction that spanned five decades. His commitment to hard work and craftsmanship left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

Beyond his career in construction, Jack was deeply passionate about photography. He had a keen eye for capturing moments both grand and intimate-whether it was the roar of race cars at the track, the energy of football games under Friday night lights, or the excitement of live concerts. His love for photography extended into public service as well; he served as a photographer for the Palmetto Police Department and contributed significantly to local journalism through his work as an editor and photographer for North River News.

Jack's enthusiasm for the space program and NASA reflected his lifelong curiosity and admiration for exploration and innovation. Closer to home, he was an ardent supporter of the Palmetto Tigers high school football team. His presence on the sidelines with camera in hand became a familiar sight to many in the community.

Known throughout Palmetto for his generous spirit and unwavering support of local events and institutions, Jack's contributions helped shape the fabric of the town he called home for six decades.

Jack is survived by his son Jeff Weaks; daughter Crystal Weaks; brother and sister-in-law Pat and Debbie Weaks; sister and brother-in-law Isleta and Dave Apple. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Weaks; mother, Donna (Sally) McCoy; and brother Gene Weaks.
