Jacob Christensen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2025.
Jacob Moody Christensen, 24, of Provo, Utah died on March 28, 2025, surrounded by all the members of his loving family after a cardiac arrest and a long struggle with a serious mental health condition.

Jacob was born on November 21, 2000 in Richardson, Texas to Mary Elizabeth Moody Christensen and William Fredrick Christensen. Born weighing nine and half pounds, he was larger than life from the start, with boundless energy, optimism, and a big sensitive heart. Within ten seconds of his birth, he already had his parents laughing at his first prank which required the hospital nurse to go and change her clothes. This proved to be an omen of many laughs to come.

He moved with his family to Provo when he was one and a half years old. Growing up, Jacob's interests and talents varied. He enjoyed singing in the neighborhood children's choir, playing soccer, mortifying his parents with his back flips off of the swing set, and playing chess in his mom's chess club. He played a dreamy Troy Bolton in Centennial Middle School's production of "High School Musical." While at Timpview High School, he was on the Ultimate Frisbee and wrestling teams and played trombone in the jazz band. During his late teenage years, Jacob proved to have a keen mind for management and finances. While still in high school, he managed the Provo Pizza Pie Caf's dinner shift and opened a mutual fund account on his 18th birthday. He later attended Brigham Young University and hoped to graduate in Economics and be very, very rich.

One of Jacob's superpowers was his delightfully wicked sense of humor. His parents were unable to tame his irreverent wit because reprimands are not taken seriously from parents who are simultaneously laughing. No family gathering was dull with Jacob, who was always ready to lighten the mood and provoke bursts of laughter.

Relationships meant everything to Jacob, and he embraced others with a generous spirit of openness, never judging others for their background, age, or circumstances. He was the Pied Piper at family reunions and events, frequently seen with one (or many) adoring cousins on his shoulders and back. His generosity to those in need never wavered; even when he was just scraping by, he was always one to share with others.

Jacob loved gaming, especially with his siblings and friends. He was proud of his team's top 100 international ranking in "Clash of Clans" and #2 U.S. ranking in "Crossy Road." He was passionate about bodybuilding, which played to his strengths: determination, self-discipline, and an Adonis-like body. If you've seen his Instagram feed, you know just how impressive he was physically. He deeply loved music, from rock to classical to hip-hop and rap. His music was one of his greatest sources of solace during some of his most difficult times.

In his last few years, a devastating mental health diagnosis tested him to his limits, leading him to develop degrees of fortitude and resiliency that his loved ones could hardly fully fathom. As his family and friends, we were deeply blessed to have so many years of this lively, beautiful, loving, larger-than-life person in our lives. He will be dearly missed.

Jacob is survived by his parents Mary Elizabeth and William Christensen; his siblings Michael (Josie), Sarah (Tanner), Beth, Caleb, and Joseph; his grandparents Fred and Martha Christensen and Michael and Maria Moody; his niece Julia; his Uncle Dave Moody (with whom he became very close during his most challenging times); and by many other extended family members and cherished friends.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Rock Canyon Chapel (2445 Timpview Dr, Provo, UT) on Friday, April 4, at 3:00 pm, with an opportunity to greet Jacob's family from 1:30-2:45 pm. The memorial service will be live-streamed at http://tiny.cc/JacobChristensenFuneral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food & Care Coalition in Provo (foodandcare.org).

This is Raymi, probably the last or one of the last Jacob´s roommates. Have you guys ever thought of the times that you´ve said something mean to someone or simply something you didn´t mean to say only because you were mad at something that had previously happened? Crazy to think that with all that was going through Jacob´s mind, he never did that to me. I can´t think of a single time he approached me with rudeness nor anything similar. Though mental conditions are noticeable and they tend to take control over people´s actions, whatever Jacob had never ended up overcoming the niceness of his heart. Truly a nice guy with nothing but the best intentions to be a better person.
Jacob, we know you´re resting from the torments of this temporal world, and now enjoying the peace of a temporal after-life until we all get to receive the kingdom we earned, I hope to see you then.

Jacob was fun loving and kind hearted. My son Wesley went to his birthday party where he ate a goblet filled with tofu. Funny the things you remember.

I had the privilege of knowing Jacob in his earlier years. His antics were always meant to bring a smile to others' faces, and he did his best to make everyone around him laugh.

Every time I visited the Christensen's home, Jacob would have a witty comment that would brighten everyone up. Working with Jacob as a youth leader, I remember him consistently reminding us that his favorite place was Wendy's and that the best activity we could possibly plan would be to visit there for hamburgers. He would frequently remind us that although his parents were vegetarian, he most definitely was not.

I hope he has finally found peace, and can return to his previously happy self, perpetually looking for ways to make others laugh.

I´ve been privileged to know the Christensen family since I was about 9 years old. I went to their house often to play with my best friend Beth. I saw Jacob a lot during those days, and he was always hilarious. I remember him joining us in playing Rock Band, and he was so good at that game. Beth was always telling stories of something funny Jacob said or did and they made me laugh too. As Beth and I became teenagers, Jacob grew so tall and big that to me, it seemed like he went from being a little boy to a man overnight. I often saw him playing with his younger brothers. He was truly a delight in the Christensen family, and I know he is loved because the Christensens are some of the most loving, Christlike people I know.

Unfortunately I did not have the good pleasure of meeting this kind and talented young man but I am saddened by his passing. The world truly needs more hope and humor as we all face our uniquely personal trials. Please accept my condolences William, Mary Elizabeth and family.

Though I didn´t know Jacob as well as some of the other members of his family, I loved being a part of his humor and wit through the Christensen Family Christmas card and the stories shared by his family. I know that he is a beloved son, brother, and friend, and will be missed tremendously. I hope that you find some measure of comfort in the deep love that surrounds your family and in the many memories that celebrate Jacob´s life.
