Jacob Grant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2024.
A bright beautiful star, Jacob Thomas Grant, 23, recently residing in Chicago, IL, departed this planet on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Briefly shining his light with us he left a deep impression on all who knew and met him.

Jacob was born January 21, 2000, in Memphis, TN, the third son of Alan and Jill (Haycraft) Grant. He attended Eureka High School and then graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, IN, Class of 2018. After a year at USI in Evansville he finished up obtaining a bachelor's degree in computer science at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL.

While attending college in Evansville and Chicago he worked at various Chick-fil-A restaurants happily excelling at any position given him (also for short stints he did at the Book Broker and Schnucks Lawndale). Due to his diligent attitudes to and for work at the Chick-fil-A restaurants he quickly became one of their most valued employees (no matter the location). It was up in Chicago he developed a tight band of friends amongst his fellow workers and encountered his wonderful and sweet soulmate Aaleah Morales.

Jacob's curiosity and interests had no boundaries. His taste in music was all over the place, from Lord Huron and Tom Waits to Daft Punk and modern Japanese composers. When he wasn't traversing all types of arcane subjects on YouTube, he would be reading comic books & manga or deep diving into all sorts of offbeat films & anime with his 'Weird' Uncle Ted. Besides being intelligent with a strong inquisitive nature, he would be very quiet at times, or sometimes off-the-wall whimsical but could also contain a biting sense of wry humor or come out of nowhere with a bout of naivety. He had certainly developed his own quirky, day-by-day internal & external unique pace in all aspects of life which tickled and fascinated us so much. All of us were so excited to see how his life would unfold.

Jacob is survived by his Mother, Jill Grant and Brothers, Evan and Isaac; Uncle Ted Haycraft; Aunt Dawn Biggerstaff; Cousin Lexie with James and their sons Preston, Aiden & Owen; Cousin Luke with MaKayla and their sons Tobias & Tatum; Aunt Monica Hart; Great Uncle Bill & Great Aunt Joanne; Great Aunt Patrica; Tom (Papa) Huls; Joseph (Grandfather) Grant; Uncle Mark Grant & Aunt Cheryl along with the rest of his Father's siblings - Uncles, Aunts and their children (cousins); his beloved bunch at Chick-fil-A; his special friend Amanda Lee; and of course his close 'buddy' Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his Father Alan Grant; Grandfather Hugh M. Haycraft; Jenny (Nana) Huls; and the love of life Aaleah Morales.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am (EST), Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Cave Hill Cemetery & Arboretum, 701 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, KY 40204, (502)451-5630.

Also a (casual) event to celebrate Jacob's life will be held at 3:00pm (CST), Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Wellspring Church, 700 N. 12th Avenue, Evansville, IN 47712.
